A word of warning to anyone using the carborundum blade in their table
saw. Be sure to clean all sawdust from inside and under your saw before
using it to cut steel. Sparks and sawdust are great fire starters and
the smoldering is not always immediately evident. If you have a dust
collection system it should be disconnected from the saw. A dust
explosion is a real possibility and you will notice that immediately!

Good point Dick...I've had the saw dust in my 1" belt sander catch fire
while finish sanding metal parts....

Well...there were three at SNF that I saw...no not three hundred, just
three. Allan Wise's early sixties Piet, a nice Piet with a non-Piet
rudder/vert stab. ( the rudder was rounded on top like one of the old German
biplanes and the vert stab was just a real small triangle affair) and a red
Scout that looked a lot like the red Scout that was at Brodhead last summer.
Could it be??? I may have missed a few but I don't think so 'cause I must
have walked 50 miles all over LAL, at least it felt like it. I walked past
the spot where William Wynns' Piet was parked last year....It was a little
disheartening that it wasn't there this year. So yeah there were only three
but hey that's half as many as I saw at Brodhead last summer ;-) The rest of
Sun N Fun was great as ussual and the airshow in the afternoon was awesome.
The company was great and the weather perfect. Ed G.

William was there, with his Corvair engines. Spoke
with him briefly, he's doing well. No plans for
another Piet just yet.
The Piet with the rounded tail look like a French WW I
airplane, especially small because it was parked next
to JW French's Baken Duce, a decidely larger airplane.
Nice work on it.
I agree with Ed, about walking at least 50 miles!

The Piet with the Tiger Moth Tail was built by George Read. It was built as a bi-Piet
with two wings, a radiator looking front and Tiger Moth tail. After George
sold it, it was flipped over in a field. George bought it back and removed
the lower wing. He grafted some of the lower wing onto the ends of the top wing
and made the wing longer. I think 5 feet total. It sports a 0-235. George has
built 11 +- airplanes with 3 of them
Piets, and now is working on a bi-Breezy. We sometimes fly in to Twelve Oaks on
our way to Sun n Fun and visit. George did let me fly it once and it flies very
well.

Second that! You couldn't guess how far a hot
spark can go.
Many years ago I had a summer job in a sawmill
as a firespotter for a welder. Three hours after a small
job one day, even though the area was hosed down
before and after the job,a fire popped up-20 FEET AWAY!
They accused me of putting the entire pacific ocean on that
one. The scary thing is that it could have quietly smoldered
away under some piece of machinery then set the entire
place ablaze even more hours later.
Please don't weld, cut, grind or sand metal anywhere near
your woodwork or paint. And wear cotton, not polyester, etc.
( That's another story. )

Vancouver.
