If I want to go to the pietenpol flyin and I am in a Lucombe or a Tailwind, I will not be welcome becuase the pieters want to hog the event for themselves. I will probably be in a Cessna 140 and park around the tree line so people will talk to me. Or are only Peitenpols allowed? However, if you were to land in your 140/8A/TW and invite all the other non-Piet/GN drivers in America to turn little Brodhead into "Air-Venture Junior", Pieters might get a little stiff about your choice of venue. Your purpose for landing in a non-Piet will probably come to bear. If you come for a Pietenpol/GN fly-in, you'll be fed and regaled with great stories, no matter "what-ya-brung". If you want a corner of that tiny grass patch for "a few" Tailwinds or Luscombes to have a similar low-key gathering, though, you might get a few flour bags dropped on your tent. on 5/13/03 16:04, Christian Bobka at bobka@charter.net wrote: > --> Pietenpol-List message posted by: "Christian Bobka" > > I get now. I used to own a Cessna 140 and would be proud to fly it into Brodhead. I would even be proud to fly the Cherokee that I'm driving now (while trying to earn an instrument rating) in there, even though it has one of those "training wheels" hanging under its chin. Frankly, I doubt if all the Tailwinds in the world would strain the resources of any decent fly-in. There just can't be that many of them. Now if an RV fly-in dropped in, that might be a problem. To a different, but related topic: Has anyone started thinking about NEXT year (2004), when the design we all love will be the grand old age of 75? Is there going to be a crowd of Piets at Brodhead, to then assemble and attack Oshkosh en masse? I for one am planning on bringing NX899JP to Wisconsin then. It will be an interesting trip - 900 miles over the Appalachian mountains and around Chicago (or right over O'Hare - I've got a mode C transponder. Imagine the frustration of approach control "Experimental 899 Juliet Papa, can you please expedite? We show you doing only 60 knots.") Brodhead is for any and all who are interested in Pietenpols. There are no screwball requirements other than that. Others have flown in in other than Piets, you have to get there somehow. However, you might get the smallest brat on sat night. : ) ________________________________ Message 6 _____________________________________ Time: 06:25:39 PM PST US From: "D. I used my vair engine on the sonex instead of the piet. the sonex is done, so I'm hoping to arrive in that this year. but maybe the piet next year?
