I'm about to cover my 108-2. Aircraft will be hangared. I want a shiny finish (I think) I don't want problems with the coatings in the future. I have used polyfiber before and like the process I have not used ceconite, and don't know anything about nitrate dopes (except they are flammable) Leaning toward Air-Tech coatings. I want a custom color. (deep purple and chrome yellow I think) Any suggestions welcome.... Well, of course you know you're not insuring a Pietenpol... you're insuring a Grega! But that aside, I just got insurance on NX41CC through Falcon, the EAA underwriter (also headquartered in Texas). Liability alone is $600/year and adding hull coverage of $15,000 doubles the premium to about $1200/yr. but I'm not a high-time pilot (under 500 hrs.) and have zero Piet time. Plenty of tailwheel time, but they want time in type, I guess. Interestingly, the agent told me that they are required to inform me that there is an additional premium if I want to include coverage if my airplane is used for terroristic acts (I declined the coverage). I almost fell out of my chair laughing (and so did he), especially since my ferry pilot Charlie had just told me about the ferry flight from Shreveport, LA to Zapata, TX with GPS groundspeeds sometimes around 35 MPH and having farm implements on the ground passing him up. Picture a Piet zooming through tightly-guarded TFR airspace, with the pilot determined to get to the President and Secretary of Defense, flour bomb (or toilet paper roll) in hand, ready to drop... A friend of mine successfully dropped adobe bricks (albeit one per flight) from his Pietenpol onto fire ant mounds. Never did any damage to the fire ants, but made them mighty mad. Poor ole Charlie didn't tell me how long it took him from Bryan to Zapata but when I called him he had been on the ground only 5 minutes and it was near dark in Louisiana. Hope you enjoy 41CC. By the way, I did get my Grega insured through Butler-Brown Insurance. Their underwriter is in Addison, Texas, just a few blocks from my office near the Addison airport. Well anyway, liability was quoted at $350.00 and for liability AND full hull coverage at $10,000 brought the total to $560.00 for the year. Needless to say, I jumped on it last Friday so the plane is now fully insured for less than $600.00. Let's try to get the PIETs and GN-1s of Texas for a get together while it is still only 100 degrees. Take care. Falcon was too high for my liking. The only way I would insure the hull is if I had a loan out on it. My logic is that you won't get anyone to rebuild a plane like that but yourself for the money they would give you-----esp. is you just bang a wingtip or shred a prop. Very few shops know fabric work anymore either. Mike PS-- congratulations on becoming a new Piet owner !!! ________________________________ Message 8 _____________________________________ Time: 12:28:36 PM PST US From: Michael D Cuy Subject: Pietenpol-List: Watermellon Drops --> Pietenpol-List message posted by: Michael D Cuy I hear tell that watermellons make a helluva footprint when dropped on firm ground. How many Piets could be carried in a C-5 with wings removed? With fuel so cheap in Iraq we could easily ask the beauros for a little help. Might be fun. Sure would create some excitement.
