I am buiding the control horns for the rudder and elevators and notice that
if I use an AN3 bolt and locknut to fasten the horn, the height of the nut
is such that it will protrude into the fabric covering, although the bolt
head should clear it OK.
I am thinking of using an AN316 thin check nut and peining the bolt end over
to stop it comeing loose, but would appreciate some advice.
Many thanks

Can you guys give me the details of what sport pilot is?
Or where I can go to get the "dish"??
I remember with the recreational pilot thing, a lot of the flight schools didn't
want to do it, seemed they didn't make as much.

I have membership cards for all the Texas folks who own or are building or
wanting an Air Camper. If you want to join this prestigious group (membership
fee is a bottle of Corona beer at the next meeting, but if you don't make the
next meeting, no problema, we can waiver the fee and send your card muy pronto
anyway.) Send me your snail-mail address as and I'll put your membership card
in the mail to you. We'll figure out the Corona hand-off some other time.
The new Texas group was kind of formed on Sunday during a moment of
enlightenment when Chuck Gantzer flew his Pietenpol over Terry Bowden's Tick Hill
Air
Field. "Wow" us wannabees said, as we gazed up into the sun when Chuck flew
over. (Maybe looking into the Texas sun is what provided the moment of
enLIGHTENment? Regardless, this was a good group of folks to meet and everyone
had a
great time. Terry and LeAnn cooked up a great round of burgers and proved that
Texas Hospitality (and Bowden burgers) can't be beat.
Oh, yes... Our newly formed group will be extending HONORARY membership cards
to folks who reside outside of Texas. For grumpy people (Texans and
non-Texans), we extend ORNERY membership cards. However, Grumpy people need to
be
nominated by either an HONORARY member of our prestigious group or a real Texan.
Membership fee for an ORNERY member is a case of Corona.
(Chuck was the first non-Texan indicted in our group, I mean INDUCTED into
our (sorry Chuck) I didn't mean to suggest you ran into trouble with the law
down here. We have room in our organization for everyone, even grumpy folks and
those who actually have been INDICTED.
We hope to be working on some kind of annual event for a Fly In down here
(none of our members know anything about it yet cause I just made it up) in the
H
eart Of Texas (HOT as in sweat) Texas Air Camper Organization.
By the way, a blank space on the membership card is suitable for attaching a
picture of your mug in your leather helmet, scarf and goggles, so people will
think you are a real-live barnstormer. We encourage members to laminate their
prestigious membership cards once they arriive. (Remember, the card is free
but bring a Corona to the next meeting so we can properly indict you :) I mean
induct you.
Membership cards will be mailed to y'all if and when I get back from
Wisconsin.

It has been brought to my attention that members of the clergy should be
exempt from the membership dues in TACO, (Texas Air Camper Organization). In place
of the aforementioned membership dues for a TACO membership card, a donation
to a collection plate of their respective congregation will suffice. I regret
this error and offer my apology for this insensitive oversight. Members of the
clergy will also be exempt from duties at HOT TACO.

Corky,
You got it all wrong, after all the letters to the Fed Man and the Politicians
you were on the FAA watch list of rebel rousers. You see the Feds were just waiting
for you to give up and sell 41CC before they were no going to release the
sport pilot. After they got word you sold 41CC they figured they beat you
down and won the battle so it was time to let it out. Now you hurry up and finish
311CC and show them who will win the war.

Chris,
Thanks for the long awaited news. Really sounds too good to be true. It's about
what I should have expected coming through a month AFTER I passed 41CC on to
better hands. Seems like I've always ended up sucking hind tit. Probably because
of the compliments I've given the beauros and their cousin 3, 4, and 5 letter
organizations. I do want to publicly apologize to the FAA, EAA, AOPA for
the lack of faith and respect I've shown these last few years. Impatience is naughty
thing. Seems like I have never used much.
Anyway Chris, thanks again for thinking of me in relation to Sport Pilot. I hope
this will inspire me to go to the shop and get busier on 311CC. Y'all have
a good time at Brodhead.

I would like to become a light-sport aircraft instructor and I do not hold a flight
instructor certificate issued under 14 CFR part 61. How would this proposal
affect me? (SFAR section 155)
You would have to obtain a flight instructor certificate with a sport pilot rating.
To get it, you would have to-
a.. Be at least 18 years old;
b.. Have a sport pilot certificate or at least a private pilot certificate;
c.. Receive and log ground training in the fundamentals of instruction(SFAR section
113);
d.. Receive and log ground and flight training in specific aeronautical areas
(SFAR section 115);
e.. Meet aeronautical experience requirements (SFAR section 117); and
f.. Pass the FAA knowledge tests and practical test with a FAA designated pilot
examiner (SFAR section 119).
The FAA would issue you a flight instructor certificate with a sport pilot rating
and your logbook would be endorsed authorizing you privileges to provide training
in that specific category, class, and make and model of aircraft.
