I'm planning to head out by pick 'em up truck from LSE in an hour or two.
First-timer to Brodhead Piet fly-in and hope to learn a lot from all you who have
built and are flying! I've got plans and a Model A engine and plan to start
overhauling/converting/gluing/building soon...
By the way, how about starting the Wisconsin Air Camper Organization -- WACO.
Say, I've heard of that before...didn't they build airplanes or something? Or
it's somewhere in Texas, or... ; )

Dave-- Does your Revmaster have electric start by chance ?
Welcome to the list and good hearing from you again. The Indianapolis
show was lots of fun last year.
I think overall you'll have much less troubles using the Continental with
CG and speed/rpm issues.

Subject: | Operation NCO and more about Chuck |
Corky-- thank you for relaying the updates about Chuck's travels. I know
it has really fired up a few guys on the list and hopefully it will make
others so worked up that they will push ahead now with their projects and
get them to the flying stage. Hearing this story must be a great motivator.
After meeting Chuck last year at Brodhead he impressed me as the kind of
guy who just discovered a whole new dimension of Piet
flying----barnstorming. It was evident that he was loving every minute
of going cross country in his plane and meeting new people and landing at
places he'd never seen before. While eating the great grilled pork chop
dinner with Chuck there under the pavillion he told me how his employer
would not let him take off an extra week of leave without pay so right
after Brodhead and Oshkosh he had to bust butt to get home. He talked
about working out a way to take at least two, if not three weeks of leave
all at once next year which is exactly what he's doing and experiencing
now. I took a photo of his plane at Brodhead last year and included it in
this mail.
When dinner was over, the gusty winds that kept almost all of us on the
ground that day finally subsided towards sunset you should have seen him
when about 7 or 8 of us Piets launched in the air and he about pooped
himself. I mean he asked all kinds of questions like how tight to we fly,
in what order do we go up, how big a circle do we fly around the field,
when do we land, should we use hand signals. I told him, "Chuck, what you
do is you keep your eyes peeled, you keep your head on a swivel, don't make
any turns without clearing it by eye and lifting a wing, and just have a
ball, ok ?" Oh, really ? That's it ? Nothing formal, right ? "Nope,
just have fun." He was like a kid in a candy store ! You go Chuck !

Mike, The Revmaster has: Electric start, Alternator, vacuum pump, Propeller,
spinner and as far as I can tell it's never been run because the starter is
still engaged from the factory. Will any of the Piets be at the show this
year?

Hey Corky,
Just got to thinking...(uh oh)
If Chuck stops in Creve Coeur, Mo. on his way back to Kansas from W.V. ,
might be a good op
to get the St. Louis news crew there and do a bit on him. Would be a perfect
setting to
do an interview, with all the homebuilt and vintage aircraft there.
In this fast paced age of regulations and conformity, timeframes and
deadlines,
folks might enjoy seeing a man touring the county and living out a dream in
machine of
his own making.
If you run it by Chuck, and he likes the idea, I'll get try to get ahold of
some of the stations up there and
see if they can set something up...might be a nice highlight towards the end
of an extraordinary trip!
take care,
Jon

Mike,
As soon as I receive your full legal name, address and SSN I will forward to
my Mr Lawyer Man who will do the legal stuff and you will be the proud new
owner of a downtown Texas City lot of 25 FT width. I don't know the depth as I've
never seen the property. None of my children wanted to fool with it as the
are spread around the world. You may find you don'tt want to keep it so you can
sell it to someone for $2 and make yourself a profit. I want to thank you for
buying it. If for any reason you change your mind let Oscar know as he wants
it.

Corky, do you have the address of the property? I would like to

from time to time.
Again thanks Corky.

Pieters and interested,
Chuck called at high noon, after admitting he was not a morning person, from
Quincy, Ill. Has his smoke rig repaired but is looking for a Wal Mart so he
can buy some baby oil. He plans a fuel stop at Kawanee, Ill. He asked me if I
thought they had a Wallie World there. Imagine asking a rebel about Wal Marts up
nawth. Anyway hewas ready to t/o for Brodhead. Thought it would be less than
6 hrs even though he has a headwind. All you Pieters get ready for the big
entrance about 5 pm YCDT.

I apologize for sending the previous e mail to Mike King through the net. I
was careless and will try not to bother the group in the future.

Corky-- there is a nice airport in Plainfield, IL that has a new Wal Mart
right smack dab off the North end of the airport. You could walk there in
less than 5 minutes. Plus there is a good cafe on the airport for some
lunch or dinner and decent tie downs and or hangar space. Great
airport. They call it Clow International. Uncontrolled field.
Tell him to avoid Meigs:)

After further review, as the NFL refs say, Chuck is no where near going to
hit Clow on his route. He's better off stopping at bigger (I mean bigger
than Hootersville) towns to find a Wal Mart. Gotta teach that boy things
like circling a town to see how far the shortest walk is to the nearest
motel from the airport. Did that at Watertown, Wisconsin and by gum
there was a Holiday Inn Express that overlooked my tie down spot
!!!!! The rotating beacon and runway lights lulled me to sleep that night.
