Ken in Austin, slowly building the turtle deck and instrument panels. Ken, Quarter sawn Spruce is the preferred type of aircraft wood, and is what all other types are judged from. Cost is the only reason that alternatives have been used. If you do use spruce, some of the cost is returned in dividends through a lighter airframe, and as far as any type of built up spar, time is saved. Chuck G.
