After pulling the fuel tank on 41CC I saw that clear stuff on the cork float and wondered what the heck kind of epoxy it was! So now I know. But what I can't figure out is what all the sealed, empty milk jugs are for, stuffed into the empennage ;o) do not archive Oscar Zuniga San Antonio, TX mailto: taildrags@hotmail.com website at http://www.flysquirrel.net ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 06:27:25 AM PST US ETAtAhUAxB5AWScWmBBJNRc9JpeLM4yIyJACFGuJYz9cdwXsntBD4Xj1Rzg7fBbD From: lshutks@webtv.net (Leon Stefan) Subject: Pietenpol-List: Fuel gauge float --> Pietenpol-List message posted by: lshutks@webtv.net (Leon Stefan) I work at a Co. that runs about 40 vehicles out of our location. While walking past the shop one day I looked into the mechanics trash barrel and found a discarded fuel sending unite. It had a plastic float, still in perfect shape inspite of being in auto gas for a long time. It's now in a Pietenpol fuel tank. I don't know, but these floats may be available new threw Auto Zone etc. Check dumpsters behind auto repair shops, or ask your auto mechanic friends to save you the next one he replaces. Leon S. And a response from the guy who made it,,,,, The wire (stainless steel, I think) is .062" Walt and all, I too am still using the ping pong float in both my Celebrity, and Baby Ace. I tried to shellac a cork float but it is a real mess. There's no telling when the thing will deteriorate and you get all kinds of crumbs and stuff in the gas. I assembled the ping pong ball float with "JB Weld". This type of epoxy is fuel proof. Don't use any 5 minute or 15 minute type epoxies. I know that JB weld works so I wouldn't take a chance using anything else! Somebody used TWO ping pong balls to give more buoyancy. I guess it depends on the length and gauge of the indicator rod that you use. Bob Cook
