--> Pietenpol-List message posted by: Michael D Cuy <Michael.D.Cuy@grc.nasa.gov> Dear Commandante Zuniga of the San Geronimo TACO Wing...... I confess to divulging sensitive information regarding the TACO thrust augmentor system to the general Pietenpol audience, but I stand firm in my conviction that I have not disclosed details of exactly how the Beans-Rice-Salsa combination is stored, activated, and exhausted without damage to surface paint, dopes, cables or turnbuckles. If you recall, we signed an agreement with Team Franklin before his passing at La Chita's in San Antonio at midnight over margaritas in May of 03. The napkin we designed this system on is still at the undisclosed location and only TACO President Senior Sterling Brooks has the code to access that paperwork. (or carried in the "football" by a member of his security force) Best regards, Mike C. in Ohio do not archive

Hi everybody Just a note to say how much I enjoy this group. Have not started my building yet but building my reference file. "Cranium Rectal Inversion" I have decided to shorten that to CRI a great term, probably could apply to all of us at sometime or another. Anybody close to Boise ID. Best regards Steve G

Ken You can build the Piet cockpit to fit you, its not like building a kit plane. I built my fueslage 2" wider and leaned the rear seat back 3" to make it more comfortable, also lowered the seat a bit (Barry told me that he leaned his seat back 4"). Highly recommend building a mock cockpit first out of scrap lumber as Tony B. recommends. You will also learn a lot about building the Piet fuselage that way while working with cheap lumber, (especially if you are a first time builder like I am). One good point Jack made concerning a wider fuselage is the cabane fittings on the wing center section, I built a 36" center section (per the Bill Rewey plans) so that really didn't matter much. Plus it gives you the space for up to 17 gallons of fuel in the center section (and a bit more wingspan). Rick H. On 3/30/06, Kenneth M. --> Pietenpol-List message posted by: "Phillips, Jack" <Jack.Phillips@cardinal.com> Well, Mike may not have divulged exactly how his thrust augmentor works, but I have a resonably good idea of the configuration. I think the smoke system is a decoy and actually has nothing to do with thrust augmentation. During that trip to Brodhead, there were a couple of takeoffs where Mike took off first and I departed in his, uh, wake. There was a distinctly sulfurous smell, leading me to believe he had installed a faulty catalytic converter in his exhaust system, but now I realize that it was probably associated with thrust augmentation. I thought I could hear a sound akin to fabric ripping as well, but could see no loose ends of tattered fabric on his airframe. His plane climbed rather sharply each time I heard this sound. I have tried to emulate this system on my own Pietenpol, but since I have cushioned leather seats (unlike the plain plywood slab Mike is perched upon), my efforts tend to get somewhat muffled and diluted, acheiving the smell, but not the thrust and noise. However, I haven't tried the BRS combination. Further testing may be required. Perhaps I'll fly down to Stanton's Barbeque on the South Carolina line this weekend and try a new combination of pulled pork, slaw and baked beans. I love research.
