Wow Mike...it sure is nice to hear from Paul. Thanks for sharing.
I was very fortunate to have a casual conversation with him at this past
years Sun-N-Fun. He was by riding in a golf cart and I just hollerd' "Hiya
Paul"!
Well next thing you know...he slams on brakes and backs up...turns the cart
off and puts out his hand and say's to me..."Hi, How are you"? We had a few
minutes of very plesant conversation. He's always been like that from what I
hear.
He used to ride a Harley Davidson Electra Glide years ago, so I knew he was
into motorcycles and I asked if he still had it. You should have seen his
eye's lightup! He really enjoyed his "Glide" but he said as he got up in
years he had to let it go. He has a "trike" type motorcycle now! "Audry
feels a little better on the trike", as he put it.
He used to ride it on long road trips. When he was invited to speak
somewhere he would ride the bike on occasion. There were some pictures of
him on the motorcycle years ago in one of the old Sport Aviation magazines
just before one such trip, about the mid 70's I believe and I had heard he
caught some "flak" about it from some of the "Snobbster" portions of the
membership who did'nt think it appropriate. Well...I told him I thought it
was cool and to see the photo's of him on his bike was quite instrumental in
my desire to own one...one day. He seemed very pleased to hear this and also
to learn that I did indeed, finally come to own my own Harley Davidson,
Heritage Classic Softail, which I still have.
I guess he is expected to talk airplanes everywhere he goes but I think I
"tuned in" to his other passion (besides Audrey of course)...motorcycles. I
could tell by the way his eye's lit up!
