Hi Scott,
Welcome to the list.
I live 15 SE of Parkersburg, way on the other side of West Virginia from you,
but you are welcome to stop in. I am almost always here working on our place at
Hales Landing.
I have a completed GN-1 and my Piet is about 40% complete, so there is allot of
parts to look at.
Skip
I am about an hour west of D.C. and about 20 min west of Manassas VA, are there
any Pietenpol owners/ builders in the area?
-Thanks much, Scott Schreiber

John Dilatush built an incredible Piet using a turboed Subaru engine. He
used to fly it over the continental divide here in Colorado to flyins. He
has since sold it but here is a site with pictures:

Correct, the majority of the links from the main page are down, no email

DearScott,
Try http://www.gregagn-1.com/ this link. John Grega will sell you, what
I consider, a very nice set of drawings.

Scott,
A few months ago I corresponded with Mr. Grega regarding some
measurements of the center section spars and brackets. I've
copied that email below, maybe it will help:

Subject: | Re: Spruce and Model A engines |
I haven't decided upon a power plant as of yet. I am considering a few options,
the Model A, Corvair, Subaru or the ford pinto Lima OHC 2.2 engine. The reason
I bring this up is because I have 2 Model A engine blocks and one 2.2 L Lima
engines. If I decide to go more contemporary higher hp I will be selling off
the Model A engines. Not that the maybe provides much help however it may be a
start for someone looking for a block to begin with.
I would be interested in hearing more about engines as I try to make the right
decision here and appreciate any feedback from anyone with research and or experience
in the engine research side of the build.

John,
I knew from the start I wanted to use the Model A, so I went to a car
show in Hershey, PA and bought two blocks myself. I shipped them both to a
rebuilder who later called me and told me neither were any good. That is why I
shy
away from the blocks. Many have been overheated and cracked, I was told. So
I made a new rule with myself: The engine has to be at least be running
before I get my hopes and expectations too high. However, I will keep you in mind
if all else goes south. I appreciate your time.

Subject: | Want to Build a Corvair Piet? I've Got All the Books/Manuals |
You'll Need
Hi Pieters:
Problems getting a medical certificate force me to give up my Piet
project. I never cut any wood but did accumulate a large library of
manuals and books from the EAA, the old CAA, General Motors/Corvair,
etc. I have 17 titles, too many to list. Included are all of the
Bingelis books from the EAA. I have Corvair related titles including
William Winn's Conversion Manual. I also have both the Pietenpol and the
Grega version plans. I don't know if it's possible but I'd like to sell
the whole package to one person. If you have been lurking out in the
weeds now is the time to start. I'm located just north of Boston. If you
are in this area, come on by and take a look!
Rather than clutter up the Matronics server with a long list (3 pages)
and create unnecessary traffic, I'd be happy to provide anyone with a
list. Shoot me an email at jayejay@comcast.net .
Regards,
John Joyce
