Up here we have a licence between the ultralight and regular pilot
category called recreational aviation pilot licence(RA),which allows you
to carry a passenger. The ultralight category is starting to use
something like it for their advanced category.Sort of like your Sport
category I guess.

Some kind soul sent me a very nice photo of 41CC in flight, presumably
straight and level, and if there is any "down-flipperness" it is very
slight. Here's the link to the picture, see if this compares with your
experience of flippers slightly down. And they do have medications
available for this condition, I am told ;o)

Thanks Leon. The graphics read "GN-1 Air Camper 1929". I know some
of the purists will take issue with that, but keep in mind I didn't
put the graphics on the plane. After having the plane for two years,
I'm still not sure if I like or don't like the graphics. I do like
the more classic clean look of other Pietenpols, and sometimes I feel
like a traveling salesman trying to hawk Pietenpols when I land
somewhere new.

Most purists have an issue with it being referred to as a "Pietenpol" when it's
a GN1....seems to me that it's still an Air Camper, just not a "Pietenpol" Air
Camper....I'll bet your senses don't know the difference when you're cruising
along on a nice summer evening....you can take me for a ride anytime!!! :-)
So my vote is to leave the graphics alone. I think they look pretty neat. There
are a few Air Campers out there that were built with no attention to beauty
(and there's nothing wrong with that as long as it's safe to fly..) but for those
few, big bold letters on the side probably wouldn't fit.... In your case,
I hope you leave the letters where they are.....

Oscar,
That was one of a series of pictures Corky sent me, and in some of the other
ones you could see more clearly the 'down-flipperness'. I think we're gonna
have to divy up that medication for everyone !! :)

Pieters,
Even though I'm no longer one of you I think my ears are burning. Please
don't pick on me and 41CC. I thought Nathan Moss did a pretty good job of flying
straight and leveled not having flown a tail dragger for 30+ years. He told
me that he and Edwin, the test pilot, modified the horz stab, lowering the
leading edge until sighting a straight line over the top of the stab struck a
point about 8 inches below the engine cylinders. That's probably the reasons
for the tiny flipper drop. ( Could be caused by that French 10 underside of the
wing too). He also told me that in his opinion you could never trim a Piet
to fly hands off longer than maybe 10 to 15 seconds. I believed him.

Flappers
Were the young girls of the roaring twenties, until Oct 1929, who bobbed
their hair, shortened their dresses, danced the Charleston, and dated boys with
hip flasks known as jelly beans.
Now I've really dated myself

The Grega website has been down for quite a while now and is still down. The phone
number and email on the EAA directory for the company are both dead ends.
I can't seem to purchase a plan set from them. Does someone have a plan set for
sale of the newer CAD type?

Isn't that what I said in my first message? There
might have been some confusion as I stated it as
being a permit. Both the ultralight and reccy are
permits, not licences. The "licencing" process
begins with the private and goes up from there.
The legal training requirements are 10hrs for ultra,
25 hrs for recreational and 40hrs for private.
The instructors around here want to train you for
15hrsfor the ultra and 60 to 70 for the private before
signing you off for the flight test though. I'm not
sure about the recreational.
