I bought an elect. tach. from Wicks. It has a small generator that requires a standard tach. mount thing. It looks more modern than I would like, but life is full of compromise. Some of these tachs have a sensor that you tie to a spark plug wire. Hows that for simplicity and not having worry about routing a heavy drive cable? Also eliminates the possibility (and expense) of up to 2 90 degree corner turner things. Leon S. It requires a 1''X5'' reinforcement plank that you could not bend enough for the taper that goes on threw the rear cockpit and continues to the tail post. (the taper, not the plank). The door is kind of a front cockpit thing only. Put on a step and learn to be a contortionest. Several years ago when Chuck and Doug Bryant had a Piet flyin at Benton Ks (Wichita) a man flew in with a Piet that had a right front door and a left door on the rear cockpit. It also had a Toyota engine. He only stayed a short time and left before I got to look at it. A year or so later the engine stopped on take off and he made a hard landing that destroyed the plane and put him in hospital for a long time. However Mark Langford hooks up his Grand Rapids this way and adds resistors to prevent a short (correct me if I am wrong guys, see Mark's website). Also only one of the two coils is connected so it would only shutdown one of the coils. WW uses a sensor that reads the teeth on the starter ring gear instead. Still debating which way I will go, really like the Grand Rapids EMS, does anyone know if it's tach input can be wired to a ring gear tooth sensor? Ryan, As I recall, on the upper surface there are a few of the dimensions that just don't fit on the curve. The best way to deal with this is to take a long piece of wood, I used a cap strip, and use it to form a curve by holding on to both ends. Try to get it to line up with as many of the points as possible. Don't stress over missed points as this is one of the times where close is good enough. This airfoil is not supper critical to errors like a laminar flow airfoil. Remember, the finished wing will have some fabric sagging between the ribs thus changing the airfoil thickness. This is totally natural and occurs on many fabric covered airplanes and is part of the design of the wing. There are no supplemental plans or correction sheets on this. You are not going nuts, except from frustration. Everyone has this problem. There is no official revision sheet, and no unofficial one, either, for instance, showing which parts need to be made longer or bolt-holes moved to allow better alignment or assembly. I have seen at least one corrected plot on a "Glider & Flying" reprint, but cannot lay my hands on it right now. Perhaps someone else can point out the one or two errors in the upper surface of the airfoil. I believe the full scale drawing corrects this/these.
