I do plan on using Poly brush and some Polyspray on my fuselage after being sure I have adequate finish on my wings and tail surfaces with what I have on hand. But part of the Stitts process is using the polybrush to both seal the weave, plus it has an additive to kill mildew or fungus that might start working on it and strengthen the material with a plastic type film it builds up-I remember some tests a long time ago on another list that told how much the strength increased by using ( I think) something like a layer of pantyhose over a frame and painting it with several layers of polybrush and putting a load on it.-anyway I'm not going to suggest painting my wife's or anybody else's wife's pantyhose to help em hold the load here! I may be dumb but not stupid. but I do plan on doing at least 3 coats of Stits product on my fuselage and then possibly paint with some other type of finish.but if the cost difference ins't too huge and I doubt it will be by then. probably just use Polytone. Thanks for the replies. The wing is covered both sides (stitching now) the screws under the fabric are #4 truss heads. I didn't think they would be so noticeable. Think I will finish as-is -- at any sign of chafing through I'll remove them all and patch the holes. Thanks, Tom Bernie Gloucester Mass On Wed, 2007-04-11 at 20:04 -0500, Dick Navratil wrote: > > I don't know if your underside covering is on or if you are stretched all > the was tight, if not, there is a padding that is made to fair out things > like that. Nah, he's a friend of friends back up in NC. "Phillips, Jack" <Jack.Phillips@cardinal.com> wrote: I dont think so not even sure he has email. "Phillips, Jack" <Jack.Phillips@cardinal.com> wrote: Corky, I would like to do a project like Jimmy Dean, down in Sanford, NC is doing. Jimmy (who owns a beautiful Ford Model A powered Pietenpol, that sadly needs a new fabric job) is building an essentially new Waco Ten. He bought a junk Waco and is using the old parts to make patterns for all new components. He has finished the fuselage framework, all welded up of brand new 4130 tubing, much better than the mild steel of the original. He is using the original ribs to make a jig to build all new ribs. By the time he is finished about the only original components will be the centerline and the nameplate and serial number, but that is enough in the FAAs eyes to make it a certificated airplane. Id like to do something similar, as my retirement project. Then take it and go barnstorming. You cant go barnstorming in a Pietenpol and charge for rides, since it is Experimental. IF a builder so decided he wanted to undertake such a project, to actually build one of the above, where would he or she obtain plans, drawings, spec or whatever. I've often wondered how long it would take to build the ribs for a Waco Taperwing. Mindbogling. It would be a worthy retirement project, if one lived long enough Back in '52 I observed a lonely UPF-7 parked on the far end of Ft Smith airport. I inquired and the FBO said I could buy it for $ 186. Some jerk came in, ground looped, damaged the lower left wing tip. Repairs were $186. The guy had never come back. Hey all I sent off the packet tonight with the checks still in all of your original envelopes. To date we raised $405. There are still a few more checks to come in and if you happen to stop by the Wood Shop I would be glad to take checks there too. I have attached a copy of the letter that I enclosed with the checks. After I respond to a couple of e mails I'm packing the computer for the morning drive to Sun n Fun. Thanks much Dick
