The motor I was looking at is 285 lbs but makes 90+hp. If I made the peit a single seater then it might work just fine. I will have to keep thinking about it. Ligher is better. Been out of town for a few days in South Louisiana with Jim Cooper. Met a shrimp boat at Forked Island and was BURDENED with having to bring back and dehead 40 lbs of jumbo shrimp until after midnight last night. Such are the trials of retirement. Very surprised since I only spend a total of 1 1/2 hours at the show on Friday. That will be next month sometimes. At the present I am working on the cowling for my corvair. I just finished the tunnel type baffling that will be hidden by the cowling. I have the long fuse, 3 piecewing, 26 inch wide fuse, corvair engine on fuse. I am building at the Lagrange airport in Lagrange Georgia. Would like to here from anyone. We had a crankshaft failure last August, and had to buid a new engine. The intake Dad bought for the last engine(an oil bath intake) gave us numerous problems. I think some cracks in the intake, resulting in multipule induction leaks ultimatly caused the crank failure. The joints were all braized on the old intake, the new intake is all welded and we did away with the oil bath. The engine is running well and developing 3300 rpm with a 66-30 wood Heggy prop. We test ran it for about 1 hr today and it went well. After 1 hr of break in (recomended by William Wynne's mannual we drained the oil and changed the filter. After that we test ran to check for leaks, and I did 2 high speed taxis. We would have flown today but it was already too dark when I was taxing. Tommorow a.m. we will test run again and hopefully slip the surley bonds of earth. Let me know if you want some pictures of the engine and I can E mail them to you. The cowling dad made is not Pietenpol's corvair cowling, and I think it looks a lot better than the Pietenpl style cowling. Also, we are not using a blower fan, We just welded a piece of steel in the fan hole in the shroud and use it for baffling. Let me know if you want any particulars, Shad P.S. Somebody in W.V. wanted battery, and Batt. box info, Dad got his from Batteries Plus.
