I got off work at 7:30 am, came home put some magic blue juice in the tank and went flying in the piet. Right after I took off, climbing out I saw a flight of 3 wacos off my left wing coming at me. I swung around on there tail and followed them 10 miles to Wyncoop, (I needed fuel any way...right?). The air was a cool 65 degrees and the engine was running good and in the green. I arrived at Wyncoop about 3 min behind the last Waco. So I took a look at the 4 wacos that were already there and departed for home. Winds picked up just a little on the way back and was just bumpy enough to keep me awake for the 15 min flight home. Rolled her in the hanger put the door down, and walked in to the house to tell you all about this beutiful cool, clear Ohio morning I had. I hope to see some of you Piet'ers at the fly in this Saturday (the waco guys seem to be unsocialable with the homebuilt crowd, maybe because we can build 10 piets for the price of one Waco.) Anyways hope to see you all sometime this summer, now it's bed time. 10:30am Shad (still wound up from flying again) --------------------------------- Moody friends. Drama queens. Your life? It was a great day - nice weather, lots of people and lots of planes, including seven (and a half) Pietenpols. The photos can be found at: http://www.mykitplane.com/Planes/photoGalleryList2.cfm?AlbumID=314 Bill C ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 10:10:29 AM PST US Subject: Pietenpol-List: Nice looking Pietenpol project on Barnstormers.com From: "Bill Church" There's a really nice looking Corvair-powered Pietenpol project (almost completed) for sale on Barnstormers right now. The pictures look good at least. http://www.barnstormers.com/cat.php?mode=search&PHPSESSID=b29e34feaa5 6b4 31b406bc93ea77ee6f Bill C. ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 06:36:13 PM PST US Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Wide body. From: Amsafetyc@aol.com Bill, I said it was a down side to wide. Making the point to would be builders that what ever you do outside of the prints has a price component. Weight, cost availability and budget are just a few of those issues. To compensate for the extra weight penalty, I intend using ac grade aluminium where possible to get back the advantage. As so nicely put in the Michael Cuy DVD, its my airplanen so I chose wide glide its by me for me and for the moment I am having fun in the process. I plan to adress other weight penalty issues in other ways. John Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry -----Original Message----- From: "Bill Church" To: Subject: RE: Pietenpol-List: Wide body. I am always surprised how much attention is given to the additional cost of the plywood when widening the fuselage. In my opinion, the only real concern would be the additional weight that you'll be adding. I am going by memory here, but I think Jack Phillips said he figured that the extra 1" of width added ten pounds to the weight of his plane - additional plywood, spruce, fabric, paint, etc. (you can correct that if it's wrong, Jack). But... if you need the extra width, you need it. However, using ten pounds per added inch as a basis, the 29" width would be adding considerable weight to your plane. As for the added plywood cost, all you're talking about is an extra 4' x 4' sheet of 1/4" ply (which AS&S lists on their website today at $71.25 for Finnish Birch Aircraft Ply). To save a few bucks, just use Okoume plywood, (which AS&S lists on their website today at $19.45 for a full 4' x 8' sheet, which would allow you to sheet the entire bottom in one piece). Even if you are a scrounger, and your entire plane ends up costing $10,000, an extra $100 for plywood is only 1% of the total. Not really worth worrying about. I made the fittings and am ready to do the wires. As I understand it the hard wire is either not available or not used? What sort of wire and fittings are appropriate for this? And I suppose I have the same question for the tail brace and the brace wire between the lift struts. Other than the center section I can say I have all the major assemblys done. So it seems I am headed into that last 25% that takes as long as the first 75% or however it breaks down these days. -Scott Schreiber ________________________________ Message 6 _____________________________________ Time: 08:48:19 PM PST US From: "Dick Navratil" Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: drag, tail brace, and strut wires and fittings Scott 3/32x7/19 is good for internal drag wires with MS21251-b3s turnbuckles. I found the turnbuckles on Wicks right away but searching for 3/32x7/19 didn't turn up anything. Is that any specific type of wire that would be listed in the catalog? -Scott ----- Original Message ----- From: Dick Navratil To: pietenpol-list@matronics.com Sent: Wednesday, June 20, 2007 11:47 PM Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: drag, tail brace, and strut wires and fittings Scott 3/32x7/19 is good for internal drag wires with MS21251-b3s turnbuckles.
