Gene,
Unless you just want the diagonal struts to be adjustable,a lot of people
just use tubing with the end flattened out with a hole drilled in it to bolt
to the cabanes and front mount. You can look at Bill Rewey' s piet it is done
this way.

Gene, You could still use the smaller bolts for the wing braces if you used a bushing
to take up the "slop" in the bigger hole, that is IF you have trouble finding
the forks and barrels you're looking for. I had to do this with my Jungster
1 when I put in a race car 5 point harness. The holes in the seat belt
were 1/2 inch I think, and my fittings were made for AN 4's or 5's. A couple
of Flanged ("tophat") bushings made it fit perfect.
Just my 2 cents

Thanks Shad, that's what I'll probably do if I can't find the 3/8 X 24
barrels. I'm still looking.

Thanks Robert. That is one way I could do it but first I'll try to find
the 3/8 X 24 barrel so I can use the same system that is there. To use
tubing would change the looks somewhat as streamline tubing was used.
As Shad pointed out, I can also use a bushing.
How's your project coming? Haven't talked with Walter in quite some
time. How is he doing on his new RV kit? Also understand they put a
new undercarriage on their Piet. Need to get down there and visit. All
it takes is time, something I always seem short of.

Subject: | Wing strut cable turnbuckles |
Today while removing my wings (actually the Piet's wings) one of the
ends to a turnbuckle
sized and I broke it off trying to get it undone. I'm about ready to
place an order to ACS and they show two turnbuckles for that size. One
that has 800 lb strength and one that has 1600 lb strength. Do I need
the 1600 lb one? Their only $1 apart in cost but not sure about their
size. If they look somewhat alike then I would assume I should go with
the 1600 lb one. Any comments from you guys (and gals)?
Thanks
Gene

I have to agree that the water level works great. For under $10 you can
buy the ends that screw onto the ends of your garden hose and it works
perfect every time. Were building a hanger and used one to get our
height measurements and rechecked several times and it was right on
every time. Steve Singleton

I have assisted others with rigging (a biplane as well) wings and
other flying surfaces using a length of simple Tygon clear plastic
tubing from Home Depot or Lowes filled with water. The water always
seeks level and can be used to level your longerons, wings, fuselage,
tailfeathers and even your tree house.

Went to the airport to tool around the valley as usual.
But ran into Rich (tryke Rich) and he was here with his sister and her
two kids, from Washington State.
He asked about a ride, and thats where it all started.
Took her and the two boys, about 7 and 11 up around the valley and out
to see the Ostritch farm.
A fun time was had by all

Hey Guys...
I just thought I would post the forum schedule for the Saturday of the Piet Fly-in
at Brodhead.
http://pietenpols.tripod.com/id1.html
I'm sure most of you have already seen this, but I thought I'd let everyone know.
We all owe Doc Mosher a big THANKS for puttung these forums together. Should
be a good one this year. Hopefully we can get a good turnout of enthusiasts,
builders, old timers, new timers, and of course, Piets.
I'm hoping to get there with mine on Thursday evening. Hopefully I'll be traveling
with Frank Pavliga and Sky Gypsy. For those of you who have loved his ship
for years this may be your last chance to see it in that configuration. It's
getting a restoration soon and I have a feeling it won't look the same afterwards.
:-( I'm sure it'll be beautiful though!
Hope to see you in Brodhead!

That's an interesting way to look at the 1933 plans, the best part is what's
missing. But I agree with you, I have learned so much having to do hours of
research (searching this forurm, watching Mike Cuy's video several dozen
times, reading the Bengelis books over and over, etc. ) to figure out how to
fill in the blanks in the plans. I don't think I would have learned a tenth
as much building a kit or building from a complete set of plans with every
bolt and nut specified. Of course if I was in a hurry I wouldn't be so happy
about having to figure all this stuff out, but if I was in a hurry what the
hell would I be doing building an airplane from a set of plans with a bunch
of details missing?
Don't worry about finishing your project and having nothing to do but fly.
You can always build another even nicer Piet like Dick is doing with his
Rotec Piet.

Thanks Dick,
That's what I'll probably use if I can't find barrels to fit my set up
(which uses a 3/8 X 24
barrel). I may try to grind out the barrels from the struts I need to
replace. Just not sure it will work, but worth a try.
