Group, finally found the time to add a ruff draft of my wood gear
construction methods to my website. I was typing fast so forgive the
mistakes. Also, add some pictures people have sent me.
Still need more construction and finished pictures. So send them in if you
want.

WestCoastPiet will not be able to attend the Pietenpol fly-in. I am being
forced to spend that week in Tahoe lounging on the beach with the family.
Anyway, I was hopping several people would take a ton of pictures and send
them to me, preferably on many many CDs or DVDs. Please, take pity on a
poor old Pietenpol builder who will be on vacation with his in-laws.
I will reimburse you for the cost of the CDs/DVDs and postage.
Thank you

Good idea Doc, perhaps the "list" attendees could highlight the edges of
their tag with a yellow or pink highlighter to distinguish from others.
Jack Textor
Group,
Doc Mosher asked me to post the below message to the list.
I like the idea.

Subject: | Wing Dihedral and washout |
Dihedral gives you better control especially at low speed.Just watch a
pigeon fly and you'll get the idea. The Piet,as far as I know, has no
dihedral.Since I have a J3 wing and I'm Grega mods I have washout on
mine but no dihedral.

How much dihedral is good and why?
How much washout is good and why?
For discussion sake, let's assume the traditional Pietenpol

John,
As you probably know, the plans don't call out for Dihedral, or Washout.
Why ? Because it doesn't need it, and most planes of this era doesn't
have it.
As for Dihedral, the vertical fin / rudder has plenty enough authority
to fly straight. If you put in some dihedral you will loose a little
bit of total lift, and you can no longer call it a 'Pietenpol'. :) he
he he !!
As for Washout, it doesn't need it because a Hershey Bar Wing inherently
initially stalls at the inboard portion of the wing...as long as you
keep the ball in the middle. Washout will also reduce the total lift
slightly, as well as add some drag...hence, your landing speed will be
slightly higher. That said, you should err on the side of washout -
that's what BHP did.

I was not laughing at it. Maybe it was a happy laugh, cause that is what will
be going in mine. someday.

I'm in on the nametag idea.
Just showed th' wife the panoramic photo (being a bit of a photo nut
myself) and she observed:
"I don't see ANY women there at ALL"
She's gonna be very popular.
Till she tells you all she wants me to get cracking on the Zenith and
quit talking so much about Piets!
