Subject: | Weight & Balance |
I weighed NX221PT the other day to get 602 lbs, 50 of it on the tail
wheel. This is a Piet with a 65 hp Continental, gas tank behind the
firewall, no electrical system/battery and cabanes tilted back~2 1/2"
from vertical to help compensate for the lighter than Model A engine.
Included is a painted metal prop, seat cushions and carpeting. Control
tubing in the cockpit and all control horns are painted aluminum.
My CG is ~19 to 20" back from the leading edge (60" chord) depending on
# of passengers and gas amount. The 800x 6 wheels and brakes are just
ahead of the leading edge of the wing. I used 170lb passengers.(me and
my grandson)
The question is, what is the experience with similar planes and what
gross weight are you using for planning purposes??

Ken,
Here is the pilot's panel on NX18235. Nothing but the passenger warning
in the front panel.

Fellow Pieters.......
I am in the final stages of completing my pilot instrument
panel. I have not decided what to install in the front cockpit as of
yet.
I am interested in seeing photos of your instrument panels both
front and rear to see some various layouts. I am sure many others would
love to see the photos as it give many ideas and suggestions as to what
is in these planes and where certain locations of gauges are positioned.

Subject: | Wynkoop, Kids in the cockpit, what a gift |
Hello group,- Today I had a very rewarding trip to Wynkoop Airport for th
e "Dead day" of the WACO fly in.- My wife and I flew over at about 11 am,
windy and bumpy, and landed to only 2 remaining WACOs.- I got toped off
at the pump and went in to pay, and came out to my wife talking to a young
mother and child.- The young boy (4 or 5) was looking all over at the pie
t.- I came out and said, " Would you like to sit in the cockpit?"- He i
nstantly raised his arms as to say, "put me in, put me in!"- I put him in
and let him move the stick and look at the insturments and such.- Then I
remembered I had a digital camera with me!- I took 4 or 5 pictures of hi
m in the cockpit and standing beside the piet, and got his mom's e-mail add
ress and sent her the photos.- Tonight I got a return e-mail thanking me
for the pics, and she told me how I made Tommy's day wonderful, and how he
told his dad, who was on the road, all about it.- I remember not too long
ago
being a little boy and always wanting to sit in an airplane but never gett
ing to.- If you guys ever get a chance, grab up a kid (with parrents perm
ission of course) and put them in the seat, I'm sure they won't ever forget
it, and maybe take a picture for them and they can look back in 10-20 year
s and build the airplane they 1st sat in.- This was one of the most rewar
ding days of flying I have ever had.

do poem
IT COULDN'T BE DONE,- BY EDGAR A. GUEST
-
SOMEBODY SAID THAT IT COULDN'T BE DONE,
BUT HE WITH A CHUCKLE REPLIED
THAT "MAYBE IT COULDN'T,"- BUT HE WOULD BE ONE
WHO WOULDN'T SAY SO TILL HE'D TRIED.
SO HE BUCKLED RIGHT IN WITH A TRACE OF A GRIN,
AND IF HE WORRIED, HE CERTAINLY HID IT.
HE STARTED TO SING AS HE TACKLED THE THING
THAT COULDN'T BE DONE, AND HE DID IT.
-
SOMEBODY SCOFFED: "OH, YOU'LL NEVER DO THAT;
AT LEAST NO ONE EVER HAS DONE IT";
BUT HE TOOK OFF HIS COAT AND HE TOOK OFF HIS HAT,
AND THE FIRST THING HE KNEW HE'D BEGUN IT.
WITH A LIFT OF HIS CHIN AND A BIT OF A GRIN,
WITHOUT ANY DOUBTING OR QUIT IT,
HE STARTED TO SING AS HE TACKLED THE THING
THAT COULD'T BE DONE AND HE DID IT.
-
THERE ARE THOUSANDS TO TELL YOU IT CANNOT BE DONE,
THERE ARE THOUSANDS TO PROPHESY FAILURE;
THERE ARE THOUSANDS TO POINT OUT TO YOU ONE BY ONE
THE DANGERS THAT WAIT TO ASSAIL YOU.
BUT JUST BUCKLE IN WITH A BIT OF A GRIN,
JUST TAKE OFF YOUR COAT AND GO TO IT;
JUST START TO SING AS YOU TACKLE THE THING
THAT "CANNOT BE DONE," AND YOU'LL DO IT.
-
This poem is hanging in my shop and brings a chuckle and a tear to my eye e
very time I read it, and it motivates me, so print it off and put it in you
r shop, you will KNOW that YOU CAN finish your piet!
