He out did himself on this one! I just pulled the cowl on my airplane yesterday and was wondering about a way to secure the hinge pins. Although they have never worked loose, my A&P asked me about securing them when he did the last annual. Mine simply have legs bent on the ends (L-shaped) but that little locking hook is nifty. If you don't mind, I'm going to snag the photo and put it on my website for others to pick up. I put another 1.6 hours on 41CC yesterday in high and gusty winds, but it was great fun and landing on the grass at bicycle speed into the stiff wind was a piece of cake. I've sort of started to feel bad about the looks of the airplane. It's no hangar queen... not very clean, a bit of oil smudge here and there on the belly, fuel dye stains on the passenger floorboards, unused holes here and there, and the spray-can color of blue paint that I used on the rebuilt gear legs and cabanes doesn't quite match the PolyTone that Corky used on the rest of the airplane. However, the airplane flies great, gives me no trouble, and it smells like a real airplane everytime I climb into the cockpit. No apologies once the airplane leaves the ground, but I feel bad that I haven't kept it looking like it did when Corky first finished and flew it. Which I believe is the same basic engine as the Velie. The Velie became the Lambert after an ownership change, I think. Mr. Pietenpol built an Air Camper with a Velie. I should have taken more pictures of it. It is a beauty! Don E. Nice picture. Do you have more? Sky Gypsy was always a great looking Pietenpol, but this transformation is something else. Do you know if Frank has flown it yet? It would be great if he could fly it to Brodhead. Bill C. You were right Don. That is amazing. Love the new paint scheme. I remember him saying something about leaving the wire wheels exposed this time.
