The A is 244 lb according to the F+G manual. Add 15 lb for rad and then
water on top
of that ( 12lb? ). An O-235 weighs 243 to 255 depending on model. No rad
or water either.
The O-200 is 170 or so without accessories.
Since the engine weighs no more than the A package the extra weight has
to be
somewhere else. There's many examples of "Complexify and add
weightlyness."
out there, aren't there.

I remember looking at the specs on that plane. They empty weight on
it was either 810 or 820 lbs.

I wonder how much extra weight the 0-200 adds over the "A" series
engine? Also, looks like a metal prop? And last, does anybody have
performance info in regard to cruise, take-off distance? Looks very nice
to me.

Guys,
Is this one with the full-electrics an 0-200 ?
http://www.westcoastpiet.com/n57tl.htm
I am looking for motor mount length changes and CG
considerations for this configuration.
There are twins of this example that attend Brodhead and sometimes
Oshkosh as many of
you know. If these planes are 0-200 powered and you have e-mail or
other contact info
for the builders I would greatly appreciate it.

Mike, If I remember correctly, the 0-200 without electrics weighs about 20-
30lbs less than a corvair with electrics.- Dad thought about putting a 0-
200 on his piet, that we got from my grandfather, he had it for the cassutt
project, and researched the weights of the Corvair vs 0-200.- The main p
art of the weight is all the extra "stuff" people want to run with the gene
rator/alt.- I believe our corvair instalation is 240# or so and that is w
ith a pretty good sized battery, and 2 sets of ignition coils.- Electric
start is nice but does add some weight.- Empty weight of 92GB is 732lbs.
- I think the heviest I ever flew her was at 1250lbs.- It is not fun to
fly at that weight, and does take some extra power to keep altitude, and I
don't fly that heavy unless it is dead calm and I amjust giving a local ri
de.-
-
Keep your head out of the snow,
Shad
P.S.- Check out flycorvair.com , Wynne has some weight/power comparisons
of 0-200vs Corvair. It-might give you some more info .=0A=0A=0A
