In a forced landing situation where something has gone wrong=2C th e FARs allow you to deviate from the rules to the extent required to handle the situation. It's quite another thing to run out of fuel in something o ther than a forced or emergency situation. In that case=2C like Ricky told Lucy=2C "you got a lot a 'splainin' to do!" I found that the threads had to be chased with a tap after welding as the f ork end didn't screw in easily until that was accomplished. I used rod end bearings on the top end of my lift struts, and I made the strut fittings. I used a heavy walled tube of 4130, slotted it and welded in a piece of 1/8" 4130 sheet, then drilled and tapped it to fit the threads on the rod end. I then slotted the lift strut and welded the fitting in place. See attached picture. I may end up with a smaller gap and want to be sure I still get the required throw from the rudder before the gap closes and I put unwanted stress on the hinges.
