    Subject: Brodhead vs. Oshkosh
I have not been alive long enough to know what Oshkosh was like in the 'goo d old days', or even Rockford, perhaps, but I think Brodhead is the greates t little FlyIn.- For all of you that heard William Wynne's speech on Satu rday, I don't think you could say it any better than he did.- It is the o nly reason I am still- interested in this Homebuilding thing, not to spen d a lot of money I don't have on an almost ready to fly, super fast, quick build thing a ma jing.- If it were not for folks like him and the rest of you on this list, I would not even be able to get the motivation to stomac h another Oshkosh convention.- But alas, I am glad I did, because not onl y did I see some great aircraft and outstanding flying, but I also took in several forums, tried some gas welding, and met several like minded individ uals during my two days there.- Of course I also stood in a food line beh ind rude jerks, so rude in fact I was embarrassed enough to make a point to compliment the staff and apologize on the jerks behalf for their poor p ublic behavior.- You just don't have to deal with that kind of thing at B rodhead.- Thanks for keeping things positive and for motivating young guy s like me to remember that I don't need to become a wealthy, rude, s.o.b to participate in aviation. - Matt Keyes=0A=0A=0A

Very inspiring... you seem to be on the fast track for sure. I am hoping to accomplish similar tasks in my first year. If we can avoid the typical August/September Oklahoma temps (looking good so far), then I may be able to make some hay. Keep pressing on, and keep us posted on your progress! -------- Mark - working on wings Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=255201#255201

Thank you guys for the encouragement. As you may know, along the way I also put together my HINT DVDs. Once I get the last of the gussets on the eleva tor, I will be working on the TAIL DVD. I have a TRAILING EDGE DVD in the w orks as well. - Looking back I guess I have made some really good progress. Sometimes it do esn't feel that way. But overall, it's getting done. I believe it will slow some as I get into some of the more expensive work...landing gear, engine, instruments, etc. - I'll see if I can dig up some good pictures...stand by, and again, thanks.

Yep, I spoke to him earlier... he said he was there. Anyone interested in his hinges, they are currently $70 for 9 hinges... 3 for each elevator half and 3 for the rudder. My check is in the mail. -------- Mark - working on wings Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=255273#255273

Hello, This was my first year to Brodhead - totally awesome. My son and dad went with me. It reminded dad of when he flew out of Palwaukee in the 50's. You mentioned other fly-ins - Brodhead, Galesburg, Blakesburg, Old Rhinebeck - Does anyone have any information on them? I was able to join the BPA - Now all I need to do is order the plans :-) Stan Jewula stanley1968@sbcglobal.net 317-691-4060

Subject: An Update from Oshkosh: Jim Markle arrived at Brodhead
! It was GREAT to catch up with people like Jim Markle and others at Brodhead, Wisconsin this past week. 20 Pietenpols were on the ground last Sunday at Oshkosh and it seems like EAA gave us some good press. Jack Phillips and I waited out the mostly rainy day here in Oshkosh and will depart for points east Friday morning as the weather looks favorable. A big thank you to Doc Mosher, Greg Cardinal, and the guys at the EAA Chapter in Brodhead , Wisconsin for making that event and the Oshkosh showing a nice experience. We had a great display of Pietenpols parked by the brown arch Sunday afternoon. Many guys had to leave by Tuesday morning but we made our mark. All the best, Mike C., Ohio

    Subject: Re: Hinges
I don't know about B'head this year but a couple of years ago I bought a set of 9 CNC machined aluminum Pietenpol tail hinges (ready to bolt on and including the center pins) for $40 total from P.F. Beck who (I think) is based out of North Carolina someplace. A recent post here listed his cellphone as 803-259-6381. IIRC he and a buddy have access to CNC equipment and aren't afraid to use it! Their hinges REALLY impressed me as high quality at an absurdly low price. I showed them to my CNC machinist co-workers at my then-employer (Steen Aero Lab) and they all guessed the hinges must have cost between $60 and $90 EACH... they all dang near blew hot coffee out their noses when I told them what I actually bought them for. VERY high quality stuff. Vi Kapler sells some cast hinges, I believe, I'm not really familiar with them but I've been told that they take some finishing work before use (could be wrong on that). I've heard very good things about both guys and their products so you probably won't go too far wrong either way. Hope this helps. -Mike Missin' Oshkosh, but at least I can watch/listen to it live online!
