Well I would think a poster listing the type, weight, name of
designer, stall speed top speed, engines used (no wait that would take
forever) origin date of design and a few mentions would be enough,
successful completions, hundreds, perhaps thousands.
Just use a magic marker. Plans available definite yes.

"He could accomplish this without any assistance. The pulley system can be seen

genius... "
DO archive this! With all the "let's change this" and "let's change that" I sometimes
get so caught up in.....those words (in my opinion) sometimes get lost....
"He really was a genius..."
When I grew up I got to hang out with a few older characters, one was a tv repairman
one was an auto mechanic and the other was a machinist/tool and die man,
and those times were life changing for me.
What I would give to get to be a kid getting to piddle around in Mr. Pietenpol's
shop.
I'm not even sure if he was the kind of fellow that would have allowed such a thing
but I can dream....
He really was a genius...

I'd be happy to help end the discussion about squirrelly
landings if somebody will upload a video of me and 41CC
to their YouTube. I have no idea how to do it but I do
have a video that many will find "interesting" and while
I'm not proud of my bad landings, it is always fun to
watch them and critique accordingly.
It's an 8.5 MB video clip if someone can handle that; let
me know offline.

Oscar,
What the heck.you kept it on the runway! If everyone made greased on, spot
on landings every time, there would be a 50-way tie at every fly-in with a
spot landing contest! I would gladly trade places with you and be bouncing
down the runway once-in-awhile, to the vast enjoyment of others.who cares
what they think, anyhow!
But I'll leave the airspeed settings and throttle adjustment advice to real
Pietenpol drivers.

If you ever get the opportunity to visit the Fillmore County Historical Museum
in Fountain, Minnesota you can visit part of Bernard's shop. Many of the machine
tools from his workshop are in the museum. There are two Aircampers and a
Skyscout along with many artifacts from his home, workshop and life in Cherry
Grove, Minnesota. It is a real treasure for anyone interested in the history
of Mr. Pietenpol and the development of the Aircamper. Hey, remember Orrin Hoopman
was just a kid when he started hanging around Bernard's workshop. Who
do you think provided the encouragement? I am sure Vi Kapler could tell you
stories about kids hanging around Cherry Grove just for the chance to get a ride
in that airplane with an automobile engine. Yea! you can dream...

Any landing you can walk away from is a good one, at least according to my CFI
back around 1995. By that measure, all of my landings were good ones. And I
never bent the airplane, so that's just icing on the cake.

Jeff,
I have to ask, what kind of camera is it that was used to film the clips of your
take offs and landings? The wife and I have been contemplating the purchase
of a new video camera for Christmas, and I was impressed with the image quality
of the clips you posted on youtube.

Hey Billy,
Thanks for the kind words. The camera is a Panasonic DMC-ZS3 AVCHD
Lite. It's Panasonic's effort at bridging the gap between
point-and-shoot digital cameras and dedicated digital camcorders. It
has true 12x optical zoom, which is why I bought it. As a camera, it
_can_ do well, but it is worthwhile reading up on its use as much as
possible to get the best results. The capabilities are great, but
because they exist, just relying on the defaults means the pictures
aren't as good as they could be. For instance, a Canon SD will give
much better pictures right out of the box (but not nearly as good
video). OTOH, the ZS3 _can_ produce great photos for the educated
user (of which I am not one yet), but the videos are _great_ without
much knowledge of the unit.
One other caveat - it's a little bigger than other point-and-shoot
cameras and the battery life is a bit short .
HTH,
Jeff

Thanks for the run-down on the camera, Jeff. I have a dedicated camera for still
shots, a Pentax *ist DS dslr camera that takes incredible pictures. We just
don't have a camera with actual video capability. I will definitely consider
this camera while I'm researching which one we end up with.
