I was very concerned about the drain grommets on
41CC when I first started flying it. I noticed
that when the airspeed would get close to 75-80 MPH
indicated, I'd look out at the underside of the wing
trailing edges and the bottom of the wing fabric
would begin bellying towards the trailing edges as
the venturi suction past the seaplane grommets created
a vacuum inside the wing. The reshaping of the wing
would shift the center of pressure forward such that
the pitching moment moved aft, until the airplane
would pitch up and no amount of forward stick would
control the airplane. I would immediately slow the
airplane to avoid an uncontrollable, deadly
condition and the airplane was an unmanageable beast.
Then I'd wake up, shake myself, pull the blankets up,
and go back to sleep ;o) Folks, don't worry about
drain grommets.
Happy Thanksgiving, Pietenpolers. Friends, all.

Greg,
Very nice tutorial on getting in a Piet. Arlene and I enjoyed it; but the only
thing missing is the flexibility needed to get that right leg in.
Happy Thanksgiving,
