Subject: Pietenpol-List: Markels Piet Important please read and
respond
What began last night and through today demonstrated to all that there
is indeed a family here a tie that binds strangers to one and other to
commit to each other support and comfort.
As you know one of our family is faced with a need that left few
alternatives and through and by that he decided to give up his dream for
the good of his family at a much greater purpose. I know Markle, I have
visited with him and shared the idea of the Piet family legacy and what
it means to the children and relatives who have stood by and watched,
picked up a piece of sand paper a rub here and there and like magic a
memory to last a life time is built, a bond across the limits and
boundaries of time. One of the most fun things I have experienced is to
see the joy and delight in Jim's face and eyes as the Model A comes to
life and the sound fills the yard and his face with an unmistakable aura
that cannot be described but only experienced.
I find it impossible to see that sacrificed for what amounts to be
financial decision for the here and now. We know that life turns on a
time changing from day to day and crisis to crisis and some where in the
middle is a glimmer of hope and light that makes the fight worth while.
Many of were shocked and astounded by today's news of the Markle
project announced sale and if I thought for a moment it was driven by
frustration and loss of interest I world say okay he's moving on and God
bless. That however is not the truth the truth is, he's taken the high
road to provide for his immediate family and in so doing is giving up
the dream and family legacy for the bucks of today.
So rather than go on, Ill get off the soapbox and to the point I spoke
with Jim and was able to get him to hold off on the sale decision and
commitment for a week. During that week he has decided to accept the
offer of a stock sale and take one partners to save the Piet , the dream
and legacy.
Here's where we come in. I said count me in as did many others and
without hesitation we need to raise the selling price of $6000.00 to
keep the Piet. Now few of us have that kind of cash in walking around
money and may if not all of use are only 2 pay periods away from
financial catastrophe. For many of us a few stops at the local pub,
McDonalds and the all important double shot of mocha choka la tae
whatever at 5 or 6 bucks a pop daily it doesn't take long to add up. Add
up to the magic numbers.
Here is what I am proposing, if you can pony up for 1 share at 60.00
we need only a 100 people to help naturally the more we can kick in the
less the others will need to. The key is to get Jim the 6 K so how bout
it?
100 people at 60.00
200 at 30.00
300 at 20.00
Realistically some of us have more disposable income than others so if
we all kick in for a share the problem is solved, and Jim keeps donating
his time energy blood and ambition to the Piet and the worst is we are
all out a few bucks for a worthy cause. If we cant pull it off the Piet
and the dream is going down the road on someone's trailer along with a
big part of Jim and his legacy.
As builders I think we can all appreciate the time, care, dedication
and love that goes into the build. For $60.00 dollars to preserve that
is a small price to pay on behalf of a friend, heck Jim and I can eat
more pizza and drink more beer than that on a night at the hanger.
Jim has agreed to graciously accept our offers and be responsible for
the confidential book, if we cant pull this off, and I don't see why we
cant the cash gets returned to the rightful owner and the Piet goes and
the effort goes down as another failed attempt at the preservation of
dignity and a dream.
That's the deal.
Count me in for a full share
What are your thoughts? I am sure we can make it all pretty with
certificates and that stuff but the need tonight and this week are the
pledges, commitment and stock purchases.
Please join me and the others to help one of our family keep the faith
hope and legacy alive. I know if the roles were reversed Jim would Kick
in without hesitation. Its time to share the love
Thanks
John

Good morning everyone,
Thank you to everyone that has stepped up and sent in their commitments
since yesterday night. It hasn't even been half a day yet and we have
already crested the $1000 dollar mark! If you have not yet donated, please
send us a message at* marklepietenpolfund@gmail.com* so we can add you to
the list. Start the new year out right and help save Jim's Pietenpol!
My internet provider's FTP server is down for the moment....I think I will
use DropBox for a workaround for the status website. You can check out the
progress of the effort at this address:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2314248/index.htm
I will do my best to keep it updated throughout the day while I'm at work.
Have a good day,

Ryan,
Despite my initial feelings that this whole Markle Mania 2010 thing was ju
st something that was generated by John
Recine having too much coffee or speed yesterday (you know I'm just harassi
ng you John....) I took Ryan Mueller's
e-mail below quite seriously and have responded to the e-mail below with th

I have emboldened.
Mike C.
This is Jess & Ryan, and we will be handling the receipt and tracking of do
nation commitments to the 'Markle Pietenpol Fund', or as John puts it: "MAR
KLE MANIA 2010"!
We have one week to secure solid commitments for $6,000 to help Jim keep hi
s Pietenpol dream alive. At the end of that week Jim will take a look at th
e amount of funds that have been committed and make his final decision as t
o whether or not he can keep the Piet. If Jim gives the green light, we wil
l then begin accepting the generous donations, and the funds will be deposi
ted into a bank account created solely for this purpose. We will also inves
tigate creating a Paypal account linked to that bank account so that donati
ons can be made that way.
Please note: DO NOT send money at this time. We (Jim, John, Jess and myself
) want to ensure that no funds are exchanged unless Jim gives the go ahead.
We just ask that you make a solid commitment that you are prepared to fulf
ill at this time next week.
So, in order to register your donation please send an email to: marklepiete
npolfund@gmail.com<mailto:marklepietenpolfund@gmail.com> with your name, co
ntact information, and the amount you would like to commit. I will create a
simple web page to track the progress of the level of donations; I'll post
the link to that site in the next day or two. All donations will be made i
n confidence; it's up to you how or if you wish to disclose that informatio
n publicly.
Please open your hearts and your wallets, and get caught up in Markle Mania
2010!! Let's help Jim keep this crazy Pietenpol dream alive!
Thank you,

Subject: | Hello Good people |
Coming to you from the Markle Mania center in Philadelphia this is John
Recine, the love machine coming to you on the official day one of Markle
Mania 2010. I just checked the tote board courtesy of the Ryan and Jess and it
looks as though we are 1/6 th the way there , check it out
_http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2314248/index.htm_ (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2314248/index.htm) .
I have to say I am really excited about Markle Mania 2010, there are many
opportunities to help a person, but few that result in part ownership of a
friends dream. I got to say I am feeling the love today and hoping we can
share it through this limited initial private offering. I am amazed at the
talent in the group where in the world can a bunch of glue sniffing, sawdust
munching, ornery pilots, builders and would be Orville's get together to
support a friend. I am feelin the love and love what I am feelin, you folks
are just too great.
I have to say is short order to assemble such a team of volunteers from out
of the heavens just for you, is amazing. At the close of the evening I
found my self astonished by the outpouring and laughing to tears as a watched
the Salute to Markle only to be awaken with the news of the pledges
increasing. I am hoping we can continue the pace and shut this down in time.
I am equally amazed at the offering and participation of Jess and Ryan, who
can resist her great disposition, sweet smile and earnest committed to
Markle Mania and if that doesn't get ya to open your wallet, well then there's
Ryan mild mannered MARIENE, he's working the board and will move over to
the collection of pledges. I don't know about you but I would much rather
be charmed by Jess then visited by Ryan on a mission if you get my point!
Either way I think they are great to this and a major bright spot in the
family. I am a big believer of handing over gracefully what I cant defend
successfully.
Its is unfortunate that all this comes with the threat that the sooner we
hit the magic go or no go amount or total the sooner the morning/daily/
frequent sermons stop. So share the love.
Thanks
John Recine the love machine

Nope, I got the straight skinny from the horse's mouth, or in this case, the Markle

You are correct in your assessment not that I do have knowledge or
connection into the family goings on I was making sport of the situation and the
comments of a previous post containing the phrase, that baby or similar. I
used that as a device to with humor in mind illustrate the powers and
performance of "the Markle"
Nothing more and certainly nothing I would be in a position to confirm or
refute

Good People,
I personally have been dreaming about building and flying this airplane fo
r over 10 years. Now I am almost to the finish line, as is Jim Markle. I
know how it feels to go through all the trials in life that these 10 year
s have thrown in. I am very fortunate that I have been able to weather all
the storms (so far) and able to go on to the finish (hopefully). That is
why I think it is for a great cause to pledge a few bucks, so somebody el
se can see their dream come to fruition after all the years of work. If I
had to give up now, I would surely shrivel-up and die in my spirit.

Rod,
Well put and well placed, thanks for that expression of support and
commitment, Dreamers, Lurkers and friends are all welcome to express their
commitment, comments and considerations. My apologies if I somehow neglected to
include or inadvertently did not invite anyone or group from their partic
ipation in this cause.
Thanks Rod I appreciate your commitment and correction, no offence was
intended.

How 'bout us lurkers with a dream? We're gonna show up and help make a
difference too. There are a bunch of us out here with only a dream. Many of us
have been to Broadhead at least once. Tim very Graciously gave me a ride
in his beautiful red Piet. (thanks again Tim) Some just read the list daily
and hang on to the dream that "someday" they will get to build too. Helping
someone else hang onto their dream helps keep our dream alive.
So - Count me in for $60.00 too.
Come on List Lurkers - Make a down payment on your dream!

**UPDATE**
Thanks again for your contribution Rod!
We are sitting at 35 contributions, for a total of $2890. Almost halfway to
the goal on the first day! Now we just need to sustain the momentum.
Remember, you can donate to the cause by emailing us at
marklepietenpolfund@gmail.com with your pledged contribution. Also, you can
check the running total at: http://users.rcn.com/ryan.mueller/markle.htm.
Sorry it's not fancier; I have been updating the total as contributions come
in, so at least it's accurate. :P
Thank you everyone!

Mike,
Well said.and not forgetting that Markle is like the Good Will Ambassador of
this fine group.traveling around the country . grousing meals and drinks.I
mean.establishing great relationships everywhere he goes.all based on the
Pietenpol. Too bad for the Boys Down Under, and across the Pond, that his
employer doesn't have business there.
I suspect others feel as I do, that losing him as that ambassador would be a
loss to us all.
Group hug, yet?

No Offence taken. I hope I didn't imply there was. Like Mike Cuy says this
is probably the greatest group on the net.
The thing about not building yet and just being a lurker is that you guys w
ho are building don't know us lurkers yet. But we lurkers feel like we kno
w you because we've been following your progress and enjoying your images a

last a relatively short period of time and then things get better.

Hey guys, I am ready to fly but my CHT says not to. On my taxi test at idle it
reads 300, but when I try increased RPM it goes up to 400 0r above. I have a corvair
with a warp drive prop. My cowling is square with two 5 inch inlet holes
with the proper exit amount. The warp drive hub takes the prop and pitch out
beyond the inlet cooling holes thereby not giving me enough cooling air on the
ground. Barry Davis told me that he heard of one builder with the same problem
and his fix was to make two tabs perpendicular to the blades to force air to
the cylinders on the ground. They would be balanced of course but my thought
would be to make a small prop shape to bolt on to the hub. It would be pitched
to the prop thereby forcing air through the cowling. I hope I am making sense
out of all this, so any thoughts from the group on this?`cheers, Gardiner Mason

Gardiner,
Might be a good question to post on the Corvair list, too, but are you sure
you have enough 'vent' at the bottom to exhaust the air? And equally sure
you have a good seal around your fairings? And...this is a longshot...but,
on my Aeronca Sedan, I had a CHT gauge that was just plain wrong. I finally
discovered it when I put the end in some boiling water...did you know that
water actually boils at 300deg? ;-0

Gardiner, It sounds like possibly an eronious reading of the cht.- I don'
t recall our cht's reading that high on the ground.- Are you using the st
ock corvair cht probe?, location?- And what are the ambient temps?- As
a reference, what oil cooler set up do you have, and is oil temp high.- I
f possible try doing some ground runs with the cowling off, I don't know if
you have the pressure cowl, or eyebrows, but see if it makes a difference.
- Do a vissual check of the heads and make sure you don't have any induct
ion leaks, at the head, or intake, detonation will ruin your day (not to me
ntion your engine, trust me, we learned the hard way!)- One easy way to c
heck (albeit not 100% accurate) for induction leaks is run the engine up to
full power and pull the carb heat on, and see if your rpm's drop off, if t
hey increase you are either way too lean or you have an induction leak lean
ing out your engine.- Any leak around a gasket down stream of the
cabarator will lean the mixture.- And finnaly double check the timing, i
f it is too far advanced it might increase the CHT.
-
Hope this gives you some usefull advise, at least hings to check foe,
Shad
-
P.S.- keep me informed, I will think some more about it=0A=0A=0A

I am sure you have checked both the sender and the gauge. What is your oil temperature
doing ? And did you clean out all the aluminum flashing from the heads
during the rebuild. Temperature seems very high if you are certain that air
is moving through the engine compartment. Double check ignition timing. What
carb are you using ?

highest donation so far has been $150, and we have had contributors from as far
away as Australia and South America. List-regulars, lurkers, family and friends
have all offer their contributions and they are all greatly appreciated.

Jess,
Thanks for the update. Hard to believe just 24 hours ago we had an idea and
now we are almost 2/3 there. I don't know where or how where we could ever
find a finer bunch of folks. I hope the spirit keeps the Markle O Mometer
rising to the goal. We are rapidly approaching the mark it would be great
to get to it by the closing of the market.
Markle a man of his word, has told me if we don't hit it by closing time
then its over, he's not willing or wanting to drag this on or out. Once its
done its done no going back and no regrets I agreed with him. So the time
table has been set we are 23 hours down and 2/3 there well almost.

I'm headed to bed for the night, so the Markle-Mometer will not be updated
any further until the morning. Please keep sending in your generous
contributions...we've made tremendous progress in just 24 hours, and now we
need to keep it up until we hit the finish line. I hope to be able to add in
a big bump to the total in the morning. Be creative...enlist others! Jess's
mother Mary is in for a share, and even one of Jess's co-workers threw in
$10 (she didn't give them a sales pitch, she was just telling the story of
what the group is trying to do and they wanted to help).
Have a good night everyone, and thank you all!
