Subject: | Air-Oil Cooled A |
This turned up at Arlington. An A modified to use a
combination of air and oil for cooling in an attempt to
eliminate that big radiator. I don't have any more info
but I may go to the Concrete ( yes, it's a town! ) later
this month to the museum where it lives but in order
to cross the border I have to take all my work stuff
out of the truck. Then back in again later.

You are correct, Ben. If you have an engine driven electrical system you
must have a mode C transponder if flying under the 30 nm mode C veil.
Otherwise not required, as long as you do not fly in class A,B, or C
airspace, and do not fly over 10,000' MSL.

Question: If an aircraft has an engine driven electrical system, does the
FAR's require it to have a transponder ?
Thank you
Chuck Gantzer
Answer: The answer is NO... but if you want to fly thru or land at class C,
then you not only need a transponder plus an encoder. You sometimes can get
a waiver for one airport but it is a hassle. If you don't have an engine
driven electrical system then you can wander thru the class C.
I got a transponder and encoder as I am based at a Class C airport. I
contemplated getting a waiver BUT having a transponder helps prevent jets
from backing into me (TCAS). Encoder is cheap ($200)... Transponder is
couple thousand
with install.
Cy Galley
-------------------------
So there you have it. Unless where you fly from or where you plan on flying
to requires you to have a transponder to enter that airspace, you do not
need one with a Corvair powered aircraft.
Ryan
P.S.: I mentioned in another reply: Vertex Magnetos used to available in a
six cylinder version that would purportedly work on a Corvair, but they are
no longer available. If you could find one it would most likely be more
expensive than a used transponder anyhow.

that might be running a mag on a Corvair.or someone that might have one to

section with this site like the Kansas city Dawn patrol does but probably
not since it doesn't seem to be the same type of site. as you can tell I am
not very computer literate.but I have several items that I am not using that
might be of use to other builders like probably most on this site do.so if
you know anywhere to find a mag for some more reasonable price that the race

Jerry;
Depending on how much air is in the tires and how
much fuel is in the tank, in the level flight
attitude 41CC sits with the top of the top longeron
anywhere from 51-54" so it sounds like that 51"
dimension from the plans is pretty accurate.
I could lift the tail and measure it but I won't
be back at the hangar until Saturday.
41CC has 6.00x6s on the mains.

In addition to being very long nosed, the prop on N8031 is directly in
line with the top longeron - not 4" below. I don't know why. She seems
to fly just fine, at least to me.

That's only about 60 miles from me, Jim. My Pietenpol is at the Sanford
airport (KTTA) for the moment but by Wednesday it will be back in my hangar
at Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia (W91).

Since one does little night work, I have an electric wheel chair that is powered
by a 12 volt auto battery, a 2'X 3" X 12" Solar Panel. Is it's charger and I
have never had to charge the battery any other way so far this summer.

I was a new addition to the list last summer just after Oshkosh.=C2-=C2

.=C2- Unfortunately we leave for Honeymoon=C2-to Italy on the Sunday of

So Here I am almost one year later and ready to get back at it.=C2- My pl

=C2-=C2-=C2-I had a few questions I hope you guys might be able to an

1). Dose Mike Cuy still sell the DVD's?=C2-I can't find his website anymo

2). What "certified" adhesive is recommended for=C2-all of the wood const

3). Is there any written info on a website or otherwise that outlines=C2-
the inspection and certification process and stages for building a experime

We are in luck! According to the new BPA newsletter (pg. 5), Chapter 1279 is planning
to display their completed (not-covered) Air Camper at Brodhead and Oshkosh.
I think there was a partially completed Sky Scout there last year... it was very
interesting to study. This project ought to be a valuable exhibit for all to
study, especially those of us that are still trying to figure out this huge
puzzle.
