Oscar and others with A65 or A75s,

Sorry to belabor the issue - what's your idle oil pressure after you've
been flying for 30 or more minutes? That's when mine is 15psi. I know
10psi is acceptable, but Don and others have said that theirs remains at
      35-40.

After this, I'll put this issue to bed and enjoy flying it. :-)

Again thanks to all you guys who have put some time and energy into this
thought process - you truly are a great bunch of people! I am humbled
      and honored.

The oil pressure on NX18235 stays around 30 - 40 psi even when warm.
However, the oil temp never goes above 150 - 160 F.

Just a heads up for those of us bringing Piets to Brodhead. William Wynne
posted this to the Corvaircraft list last night:

      ---------------------------------
      Friends,

It is 1 am and I am taking a break from packing the truck and trailer for
Brodhead and Oshkosh. I am planning on leaving at 3 PM Wednesday and being
at Brodhead very late on Thursday. I am bringing a very expensive set of
electronic scales, and I would like to see how many Piets we can gather W&B
info on. If any one heading there would like to help, especially with a
spreadsheet on a laptop, find me on Friday morning. I have wanted to do
      this
project for a while, and Get the newsletter to print the data.
      ---------------------------------

We're bringing an iPad/laptop/MiFi and can handle the data collection. If
the weather holds between TN and Brodhead we will even have a Piet to weigh.
        :P
If you are flying your Piet to Brodhead please consider coming over and
having it weighed, as the data will ultimately be contributed to the BPA
      newsletter.
I don't know where it will be happening...we'll find out when we get there.
      Safe travels everyone!

      Ryan

Ah, well, there ya go then. With all that asphalt and concrete, Chicago
creates it's own weather and the on-shore flow of cooler air seals in
the hot air so the city gets even hotter. Madison and Rockford are
showing the same chance of precip, but temps 10-15 degrees cooler (thank
      goodness!)

However, I'm not diggin' the 15mph crosswind (150) on Thursday.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the best reason to make
one or two spare wing ribs when you're assembling them:
if you ever ding a wingtip or part of a wing and need
to replace a rib, you'll have a pattern that will match
your other ribs perfectly instead of having to make
something that is only "close" and not match the others.
Of course, you could also keep your rib jig and have
the same effect, but a rib jig doesn't have quite the
same charm as a rib, hanging on your wall.

I got a good deal on an A-65 and am selling my Corvair, will have it at
Brodhead and OSH. In 2001 I bought a "closed case" from Wm Wynne. He
cleaned the case, magna-fluxed the crank( this was before the nitrite thing
came up) bolted the case together with OT-10 cam, also the safety shaft and
studs, good heads and donor parts to trade to Clarks. I also have the black
prop flange and cast alum "Air Camper" valve covers. Also a 2002 Wm Wynne
manual and VCR tape, and a box of catalogs and Corvair info. I have
something over $1200. in this stuff and will sell it all for $800. cash.
      See you at Brodhead.

      Douwe,

A.E.R.O In Stock probably has a rebuilt Marvel on the shelf - they do
accept core exchanges. You could even pick it up on your way through to
Brodhead at their West Chicago location.

| Subject: | Pietenpol Metal Brackets & Fittings |

Earlier this year, I polled a number of local Pietenpol builders about whether
they would have fabricated their own metal brackets & fittings, or purchased
them if they had been available. Based on the information gathered, we've gone
ahead and made a series of metal kits specifically for the Piet.

The kits are substantially complete, and I'm bringing a very large sample set with
me to Brodhead. While the samples were made to prints and spec's, they are
not made from 4130, and may not be used in aircraft. That said, the 4130 alloy
kits will be available in the August timeframe.

Because I value the great comments from this forum, I'd appreciate it if any and
all of you would stop by to spend a few minutes with me, give me your feedback,
and let me know what you think.

      The completed kits are:

      1. Empennage
      2. Jenny Landing Gear
      3. One Piece Wing kit
      4. Center Wing Section of Three Piece Wing
      5. LH or RH Wing Kit.

In addition to the above, we're putting together an engine mount kit, and a controls
kit. In the controls kit, there will be dual stick & rudder, along with
the bellcrank behind the pilot's seat.

With a few exceptions, all of the parts in the various kits will have all holes
pre-drilled, and will be pre-bent. In several cases - those spelled out in the
plans - the parts will be drilled or bent during assembly.

Pricing is being developed as I write this, but suffice it to say, the cost to
you isn't the principal benefit... According to the guys we polled, you might
find yourself in the air one to two years earlier.

I'm personally looking forward to seeing each of you I've met, and those who've
added so many great comments during the past year.

Douwe=2C I have rebuilt dozens=2C if not hundreds of these things. Do it y
ourself=2C it really is a no-brainer. It is all remove and replace=2C no a
djustments. The rebuild kits are not expensive (or they didn't use to be).
Just disassemble and clean=2C reassemble with new jets and gaskets and yo
u are there. the shaft bushings are the only parts that wear. Ifr you rep
lace the shaft bushing=2C you need a ream for that=2C but it is the most ch
allenging (not) part of the procedure.

Try a location as faraway from the engine as possible with the antenna.

This antenna needs a ground plane. There aren't any locations that are of a significant

Yeah, but still, you might try it somewhere else and see if it works.
We moved our antenna to the cut-out in the rear of our wing center
section, and it works quite well, no shielding and no interference.
      Good luck!

      Dan,
For what it's worth, I'd buy some shielding and give that a try. I put my
antenna in the same location on N502R and had wonderful results. Over 50
miles on a handheld while I was at 500 feet AGL. I have used the shielding
on 2 strokes with very good results.

Well looking at departure on the bike at 0600 EDT, but weather looks pretty crappy
along my route from NY. Looked at the prog charts and decided the stationary
front is going to remain in place during my whole trip to Brohead.

I decided that the better decision is to load up the car and remain dry, but I
am still coming. Barbara was relieved and the wrinkles of concern have subsided
from her face. I hope you guys flying in are careful and remain safe. Hope
to see all of you at Broadhead.

Do you have access to the bell crank for your elevator?
I was able to fit a large sheet of light aluminum behind the rear seat
and install my antenna out the bottom. Works great.
