This was my first time at Brodhead, and I enjoyed every minute of it. When I heard it thundering I was glad to be in a dry motel room :) I'm still kind of new to the Piet. but learned a lot while there. I really wanted to go for a ride, but I feel way to awkward asking someone for a ride in there airplane. We ( my girlfriend and I) will be back next year hopefully with some picture progress on my Pietenpol. Great even, loved it! Hi Larry, Welcome to the list! I believe I spoke with you, your daughter, and a gentleman from SW Minnesota while I was buttoning up N8031 one night. Or, maybe that wasn't you - I met so many wonderful people I can't keep everyone straight in my head. I thought you already had a flying Pietenpol? Or again, is that my faulty memory playing tricks on me? Hey Bratman; are you really making up some "Crank Snappin' Corvair Society" t-shirts to sell? I would like to be first in line if you are. We should get somebody with artistic skills to make up a (CS) logo for us to emblazon with pride on our Corvair powered birds. Maybe Karetaker Aero as he's obviously had some practice at it. By the way, the new Hitler spoof had me rollin' on the floor when the boss walked in. Embarrassing but worth it. Tom Stinemetze N328X or maybe N328 x (CS)

t-shirts? Michael: I swiped a copy of your "Hand Crafted Individually Unique Works of Art" emblem for my screen saver. I am more than a little impressed with your artistic style so would really like to push you towards designing a (CS) logo. Something that would replace that silly "FORD" thing that some of the guys feel inclined to staple to their airplane. And then maybe a fancier one to put on the vertical stab. (Just thinkin'.) By the way, for all you young whipper snappers (as opposed to "crank snappers"), you can include a lot of strange symbols in even simple text documents by just holding down the Alt key while typing in a number between 128 and 255. This is an old trick from MS DOS days. For instance Alt 253 give the superscript . Numbers lower than that will usually equate to normal keyboard characters while numbers higher that 255 are not included in my chart so I don't know what they will produce. (But please do not reproduce it.- 8^[ )- ) I actually have a few o ther logos just like it for "Homebuilders" and "Experimental". Ultimately, I would like to buy an embroidery set-up and sell them and my other creatio ns in the form of patches that can sewn on anything the customer wishes. It appears that John Hoffman is already in the works on just such a logo. I f he would like some input, or if we believe there should be more then one entity working on such a project, I could work on the art. Michael Perez =0AKaretaker Aero =0Awww.karetakeraero.com

Hello all you good people, I finally was able to catch my breath after returning from Brodhead, to do a little writing. Got up early on Friday. Kept checking the weather radar every 15 minutes.. .............watching that stationary front, was agonizing. Had to wait ti ll 12 noon on Friday to depart, since my home-made prop could not tolerate one drop of rain. At 12:15, was finally able to start-er up, and taxi out to runway. As I took-off, and ventured away from the Poplar Grove Airport perimeter, I got a lump in my throat and a knot in my stomach. I said to myself..."now I know how Charles Lindbergh felt when he left the security of the land beneath him (Nova Scotia), and ventured out over the Atlantic "..............there was no turning back now.................... very nerv ous along the way.... kept checking the oil pressure, water temp., and pic king out emergency landing fields on the ground along the way.........over and over and over again............ took comfort in the repetitive report , from the sound of my Ford model A ............. ........"pockita-pockit a-pockita-pockita".....Finally was able to settle down, look down, and app reciate God's creation....How beautiful she is!!! WOW!!! ........was using my GPS to stay on course.....after about 35 minutes, got close enough to spot the airfield at Brodhead.......turned off the GPS, and as I approach ed closer, lowered the nose, increased airspeed, and came roaring-in over the treetops to surprise the crowd!!!!........it was spectacular.!!!! ... Made a tight right-hand turn,.... and then a left....... then hard-over for a 45-degree- bank, 360 turn right over the crowd at low level....... came-around.... and landed.....taxied -in and shut-er down right in front of the crowd......before I could remove my goggles and leather helmet, I was getting an ovation......WOW!!!.......ten years of building finally pa id-off!!! Thanks to all for the support and encouragement along the way, from everyb ody on this list. After about 35 MINUTES? Now how do you equate that to crossing the Atlantic, at night-? Here in Texas it takes that long just to unfold our state map! ;o) Just kidding with you, Dan. What a handsome airplane you've built, and it's great to hear all the excitement. Well worth celebrating. I'm sure your daughter is mighty proud of you, too. log entry Dan, Beautiful post; beautiful experience, beautiful plane, great builder. Congratulations. Keep it up. This is an important milestone, but now you need to add the hours, see the sites, buy the $$$ burgers, look over more of God's green earth. Get bugs on your teeth. You have done the heavy lifting, fun though it may have been. Now is the second phase of "fun... fun... fun...," and no one takes the T-bird away. Piet builders and fliers are special people, all right. Look what they did to help Kevin Purtee this last week. Look at all the posts in great detail, unselfishly offered, over the years. All the pictures of tiny little details. Terrific stories and cameraderie. And of course Brodhead is magical. log entry Congratulations on finishing such a fine bird. I only wish I only lived 35 minutes away, because I sure would have loved to have my plane there instead of a rented Nissan. I'm only about 1300 miles away, so that is about 20 hours flying time. I'd sure feel like Lindberg at the end of that flight! Maybe some day. Nice meeting you and all the others in person, only wish I'd had more time to spend with each of you. Does anyone have the video of Jack's talk at Brodhead? Specifically, the part where Kevin got his "award" at the end? I told Dick Gaynor that I'd try to track it down and send it to him (or the link to it on youtube). Just got back to Remsen NY, 2200 miles R/T, driving. Sure would be nice to do it in a GN-1. I just want to say that this event is what grassroots flying is all about. No glitzy airshow but great people, great food, and great airplanes all around. Special thanks to Dale McCleskey for bringing the only GN-1 (that I saw) and for the great ride he gave me including some flying from the front hole. I have a real incentive to get my bird in the air and see if I can sit in it long enough to get to Brodhead in 2011. I think Dale was a newcomer to Brodhead but he sure flew the pants off that little bird and he always had a different passenger. Dale, I hope you got home OK and will post some of your navigation experiences. Great stories! Okay Piet lovers, I have managed to edit, resize and upload to photobucket.com the 400 photos that I took this past weekend. They have been sized to 800x600 so that they load quickly for easier viewing. Hope that you all enjoy them! http://s238.photobucket.com/albums/ff297/billmz/Brodhead%20Pietenpol%20Fly-In%202010/ -------- Billy McCaskill Urbana, IL tailfeathers almost done Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=306527#306527
