Thanks for the kind words. I really hope the T shirts prove to be worthy... I am still learning the printing business!- I can't take all the credit f or the Pietenpol. I have had a lot of help and advice from people on this l ist. A couple key people have really taken the time to explain some very va luable lessons to me and I am grateful. ! Here is where I base my Pietenpol and where the Glyro Fly-In will be held o n Sunday October 3rd. This is a really fun event our EAA chapter has every fall and since we had SIX Pietenpols sh ow up not far away at the Taylorcraft fly-in recently I think it would be impressive to see if we could have a re peat performance. This is looking north at Columbia Station Airport, (4G8). 3,300' paved N/ S runway with nice, smooth, cut N-S grass runway. The grass currently is not as long as this photo shows but it is roughly 2,500' and nice and wide. Just stay under 1900' msl and you'll be legal under the big Cleveland Hopkins Airport Class B airspace if you don't have an electrical system. For all others Mode C is required but stay under 1900 ' so you don't have to talk with CLE if you don't want to. Thre is a credit card fuel pump, laides and mens rooms in the FBO office, a nd there will be plenty of good food and hopefully lots of arrivals and fun. Best regards-bring it on guys. Mike C. [cid:image003.jpg@01CB3D2A.1A3CE3F0] From: Paul Koziol [mailto:paulykozz@yahoo.com] Sent: Monday, August 16, 2010 9:24 AM Subject: Flyro Gyro October 3rd! Good Morning! Our Flyro Gyro for 2010 is going to be on Sunday, October 3rd From 10a - 3p . We're making it more of a brunch event for the early flyers and Football lovers. The Browns are playing the Bengals at 1p so you can definately ma ke it for the 2nd half. We'll even try to set up a TV at the airport! GO BROWNS! I would like to have a small ground school for adults that might be a littl e timid of the flying world if anyone is interested, (Patty)? I here Mikkeee and Linda are working on bringing a few extra Pietenpols! T hat would be way to cool! And if anyone has anything they would like to di splay that day, you are welcome. We want to cater to the folks that are on the fence when it comes to building or flying. Pilots for Young Eagles and Adults Orientation Rides should not be a proble m and we will need our regular contingency of volunteers. Help us if you c an, do not worry if you cannot, but come and share our love of Building and Flying for sure! I am looking for a speaker for out next meeting. Know anyone? Please e-ma il me with some ideas! Thanks! Paul

Got to spend some time with Hans on Sunday. He's got a beautiful plane, built in 10% of the time it took me to build mine. Here are a couple of photos. The women are Shelley, to whom I am apparently married, and Sonny, who owns my adopted son, Matt Wash, a lurker on this list. Here is a shameless plug for the "other" fly-in at Brodhead. As some of you know, I am the treasurer of the Midwest Antique Airplane Club. The annual fly-in is the weekend after Labor Day. Aircraft attending need to be members or guests of a member. This is to keep the 172 drivers from Chicago from taking all the parking spaces. If you would like to join MAAC or attend the fly-in, let me know so I can arrange it. If you have never been, it is the Pietenpol fly-in on a much larger scale. You can even buy a shirt with this fancy design on it. Just finished the artwork last night. -john- John Hofmann Vice-President, Information Technology The Rees Group, Inc. 2424 American Lane Madison, WI 53704 Phone: 608.443.2468 ext 150 Fax: 608.443.2474 Email: jhofmann@reesgroupinc.com

Does anybody know if latex will stick to dope or polyfiber? Basically, if I have a doped wing, can I use latex for a colored edging without it coming off? Thanks Douwe Do not archive

I wondered the same thing. I did a quick test about 2 months ago-stretched a piece of fabric and brushed a quick coat of poly-spray on it and next day brushed a fairly heavy coat of white house paint on that.it has been sitting outside in the weather and seems to be stuck plenty tight.I have no idea how it is to get a smooth coating or how much it would take to change my wings from the polyspray to a nice cream white but I am still considering it. in the mean time I'm trying to finish the rest. Per the Green Manual (which you will want to get a copy of): remove the three bolts holding it to the flexplate, gaining access to them through the "window" in the bellhousing, and it should come off. It may need some persuasion, but those three bolts should be all you need to remove. Got it. The engine is now completely torn down. I will probably have the crank magna fluxed in the next couple of days. So far everything looks good. -------- John Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=309042#309042

That's a good thought. Maybe I had best just cover it. I hadn't thought about the alum. oxidizing from the water based paint. -------- Jon Coxwell GN-1 Builder Recycle and preserve the planet Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=309054#309054

Sure it may be a little backwards, but I got a compass! It's nice and big! Though I can't decide if I should panel mount it or dissect it and mount it on the dash. Either way, does anyone know what the proper process would be in opening it up and cleaning it, and or repainting the numbers? Wonder what it came out of? What number is on the crank? Also, you could do a ring test as in informal check before you spend the money to have it magnafluxed. Remove any extraneous pieces from the crank (balancer bolt, washer, etc) before doing so. Here's a very short clip that gives an idea of how to do this, and what it should sound like if it is not cracked: http://www.davemorris.com/Photos/Dragonfly%20Corvair%20College/Crank%20Rings%20Like%20A%20Bell.mpg This *is not* a replacement for magnafluxing, but it will save you from spending money on a crank that is obviously cracked. I'll forward you a couple long posts from the Corvaircraft list that William Wynne posted in 2008 about his recommended methods for prepping a crank for an aircraft conversion application. If you would like to increase the likelihood of having a safe, sound crank to build your engine around I would recommend heeding his advice. Hope that helps, Ryan <http://www.davemorris.com/Photos/Dragonfly%20Corvair%20College/Crank%20Rings%20Like%20A%20Bell.mpg> On Mon, Aug 16, 2010 at 7:27 PM, Kringle <Mrkringles@msn.com> wrote: > > Got it.
