Below is the link to a short video that Ryan Mueller posted on YouTube (Thanks, Ryan). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DR5DpgrjrQ This is a short video, because the engine run was very short. We spent the next 4 hours chasing down loose leads on the test stand, and cleaning out my carb from all the fine dust that the fuel hose had dumped. We fired it up later (about 10pm) and it ran well, and also the following morning. I am told the neighbors to FLAG Aviation are sending notes of congratulations via Rick Lindstrom, the owner of FLAG. More video's will follow... If you look closely, you may note that I am wearing my official CC#5 shirt from 2004! That's when this engine was put together; not at the Corvair College, but immediately following. I needed to get it closed up and crated so I could move, so for 6 years I have been wondering what kind of job I did... Three individuals, Ryan Mueller, Mike Studer and Beau Hotchkiss (a HS senior I brought with me), plus William Wynne, worked tirelessly for approximately 16 hours, along with the intermittent assistance of Brother Roy and Woody Harris, to make this happen. Without them, and the facilities at FLAG, it would been a very long and tortuous process. That all made me think about just what comes with the with the William Wynne engine building catalogue... First: You open it up, and this little guy pops out and says, "Wanna' build a Corvair engine with me?" Every time after that, when you call him for clarifications, or to get corrected on your course because you have strayed a bit, every time after that when you attend another Corvair College... He gets bigger and bigger, until the day comes when it's time to run the engine... Then he turns into a GIANT, hovering over you and your engine, protecting you from your bad ideas, patiently explaining for an hour the nuances of setting timing, guiding you through problem solving and fault diagnosis, until your engine finally comes to life and you know it now has a soul! After congratulating you and assuring you that it was YOU who accomplished this, he deflates into the Little Man, jumps back in the book, and awaits your call. Thanks, William!! John, It's been a rough year indeed. My thoughts are with you and your family. Take care of the business at hand then take a deep breath, grab a beer, and go make some sawdust. John, I was saddened by your news and can relate to what you are going through. Although it has been 15 and 12 years, respectively since the loss of my mom and dad, not a day goes by when I don't think of them, and I miss them dearly. I can attest to the fact, you will never get over the feeling of loss and sadness, but that is not the point. Instead, we use these feeling to remember, reflect, and enjoy the memories they gave us. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Steve -------- Steve www.mypiet.com Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=314632#314632

Skipped out of work early in order to get ready for the trek to Arizona. Had to go to hangar to get stuff to work on wing ribs for the next project. Also, had to say goodbye to fat-bottomed-girl. Tim Willis, gentleman and scholar extraordinaire came by. One of my favorite people. Enjoyed chatting with him for a few minutes. Flew in crystal clear blue skies, temp 80, wind light & variable. Did some landings at the nearby grass strip. Came back to Georgetown, felt froggy and decided to try the dreaded three-point landings. They worked much better then they did 170 hours ago, oddly enough. Proof I'm trainable? We'll see. Came home to a woman, dog, child, and two cats who were all happy to see me. It does not get any better! do not archive Axel -------- Kevin Purtee NX899KP Austin/Georgetown, TX Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=314728#314728

All, I have the solution!! The attached picture is of my mentoree, Beau, a HS student who is doing his senior report on experimental aviation. I brought him to CC#18 with me, telling him all the way there, and all the way back (total of 4 hours) how much fun it is to build ribs; and how most builders can't wait to get going, so they start on the ribs; and how lucky he is that there are still 10 to build!! I think he bought into it. Gary Boothe Cool, Ca. Pietenpol WW Corvair Conversion, mounted Tail done, Fuselage on gear (20 ribs down.) Do not archive
