The plans and supplemental plans show 2 different full sized drawings for
the lower motor mount straps. Neither seems to fit the application well.
It also appears to mount the inside straps you need to cut away a couple of
inches of the lower crosspiece on each end. Not real comfortable with that.
Could others share how they dealt with this part of building?
Thanks,
Jack

Several years ago a company was offering fuselage kits and they were lovely.
I looked at the photos and noted that, while beautiful, there were none of my sweat
stains or blood stains anywhere on the fuselage.
Just wouldn't have been the same. Nothing like building your own airplane, ground
up, from a roll of blueprints.
Enjoy buildapalooza, John, and all you others.
(John: officially qual'd in the new machine. Frightening! Back to AZ for instructor
school in January. Doubly frightening!)

I blocked in the area just above the lower longeron and moved the lower motor mounts

With that big slab of 1/4" floor plywood glued to the lower longerons the
bottom cross brace does not need to contact the longerons, just the floor
and firewall.

"Qualified" is optimistic, Jim, but we'll figure it out.
Got 4 wing ribs done for the corby while in AZ. Will try for another 4-6 on this
next trip (Jan - Apr). Your taxpayer dollars at work:).
I've got 3 weeks to fly the plane before I head back out. It's cold enough (with
all due respect to the cold-hardened people of the north) that I'll go light
on that. Gives an opportunity to do some maintenance.
Happy holidays to you and your family, Jim.

paint not being burned off mean it is very low time?

You can't tell much from paint. My crankcase is black and my cylinders are
grey but the whole thing I rebuilt a little over 200 hours ago. If the pain
has burned off, something has overheated.
What kind of engine is it, and how much time does it have on it?

Jack,
As others have said, the cross brace contributes little strength in that
area, as long as it is glued well to the floorbard and firewall plywood.
Just cut it to get it out of the way and give yourself room for the fitting
and its mounting bolts.
Good luck!

Subject: Pietenpol-List: Lower motor mount straps
The plans and supplemental plans show 2 different full sized drawings for
the lower motor mount straps. Neither seems to fit the application well.
It also appears to mount the inside straps you need to cut away a couple of
inches of the lower crosspiece on each end. Not real comfortable with that.
Could others share how they dealt with this part of building?
Thanks,
Jack

Subject: | Re: Soon will be building |
Hey all,
I would like to wish everyone here a very Merry Christmas!
Today I finished building my 2nd 8' work table, and awaiting my spruce from ACS.
Will update when it gets in.
Cheers!
