My Pietenpol burns 4.5 gallons an hour, and under no wind conditions will go 65 miles in that hour. That is only 14.4 mpg. My truck gets better than that, and if you have a headwind (which seems to be much more than half the time), it is even worse. I promised Gene I would fly formation with him if he flew his there. It costs almost exactly half as much to fly my RV-4 there as it dies the Pietenpol. At today's prices, we're talking $400 for the RV-4 or $800 for the Pietenpol. Since I retired, such a difference gets my attention. The good news is that I can carry more Scotch in the RV-4 than I can in the Piet. I would like to get all of it at the same time because of the shipping costs. I noticed that Boulter has the Okume in 1/16, 1/8 and 1/4 and would like to buy it all from them all at once. I think they are cheaper than AS&S from what I can calculate. So 2 questions, 1. Would 1/16th Okume by accecptable for wing ribs. Web site says water and boil proof in all sizes. But is the strength enough? 2. Here is what I am thinking of ordering. Any other suggestions? 1/16th One and a half sheets to cover the leading edge and gussets for the ribs. 1/8th 2 full sheets for remaining gussets, fuselage sides, seat backs, and turtle decks. 1/4 full sheet for fuselage floor and seat bottoms. What do you think?
