A friend of mine out at 4TA0 flies a GN-1 that is powered by a C85. He needs a new case for that engine, specifically a C85-12. If anyone knows of one available, or perhaps a run-out C85 engine, please email me offline. Thanks, John F. Richmond, TX ________________________________________

I kept a pencil & paper builder's log the first several years of the build. Then I just built the plane. The technology we have now didn't exist then, not that I would've used it. The pictures on West Coast Piet (all hail Chris Tracy) were taken mostly by the girl or by me using her camera at her insistence. I did make notes on details I thought I'd find useful years later in the builder's log, and I did take a handful of photos with me in them. There was no question in the FAA guy's mind or my DAR's mind that I built every bit of that airplane. They didn't even glance at the neglected builder's log. They just knew it was me. do not archive -------- Kevin "Axel" Purtee NX899KP Austin/Georgetown, TX Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=340686#340686

My purpose for keeping a detailed log is more than just the proof of builder, but my 6 year old (4 years old when we started - maybe 10 or more before we finish), will have a detailed illustration of how we built our airplane. He is old enough now to understand a little about how this is going together, and has seen all of the assemblies take shape from sticks, but may not understand why we did certain things. Anyhow, I hope this will be his airplane one day (wishful thinking), and he may like to refer to the log. -------- Mark Chouinard Wings, Center Section and Empannage framed up - Working on Fuselage Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=340700#340700

I kept a log in a spiral notebook with an ink pen. I wish I'd used a pencil. Right before the first flight, the hangar flooded in a bad rainstorm and the log was laying on the floor. Nearly all the notations just melted away. The FAA was much more interested in photographs, particularly shots that showed me actually working on the project, in order to give me the Repairman's Certificate. Beware of any electronic log unless you back it up regularly. Hard drives DO crash (ask me how I know). All, Hales Landing spring picnic is coming up in about 2 weeks, all Piet builders/flyers are welcome, see attached flyer. We are in the NW corner of WV, 12 miles south of PKB airport. We have 3 flyable Piets on the field (2 actually flying), and 3 more Piet projects. Please contact me or Ed if coming so we can look out for you. Skip P. S. You can buy Yeungling in WV, I have some in the hangar frig, and will gladly pop one or more for any Piet lister who shows. P.S.S Kip, I would seriously consider moving to a more Yeungling friendly state. ;o)

In an attempt to reduce the inventory of adult beverage in the my hangar refrigerator I met my neighbors and one was named Pepper a partner in a light sport. He is a medical person, Despite my hopes his first name didn't come up even though I was hoping it was Waldo. As a medical professional but not an MD. his hangar mates and partners call him Dr. Pepper. Oh Well so much for meeting a Waldo pepper, but I did ask in hopes his first name was Waldo.... If the weather holds for next week I can see the piet moving into her new home. I would like to have her somewhat assembled and out on the field for the first annual Amish tail dragger day but still much to do in fabricating fittings and hanging the wings to make it for the June date. But I will try to make it. Mr Brown has offered to help with the move so it may be possible, just too many variables to contend with to make the display a happening thing. Shad, That would be great. I loged 1.8 on the trip back last year. Our Piets cruz less than 65 mph, so you should be able to make it in about 1.4 no wind time. Duats says its about 94 nm. We have hi-test auto gas on the field but no 100 lotsa lead, that can be had at PKB. From: Mark Roberts <mark.rbrts1@gmail.com>
I know what the plans say, and I am not trying to re-invent the plane! :o) I bought some vertical grain sitka for 8.99 per board foot, and it is in th e rough. It measures just at 1" rough in most spots, and ove 1" in others, so I am in the shop planing sruce right now. I stopped to see if anyone had answered my post, as I was thinking of taking the spruce down to 7/8 on the stringers to insure no 'rough' was left showing. I can sand away the little rough spots, but i thought I might make the sides 7/8" thick. $242.64 for 27 board foot of Sitka in the rough. I oughta be able to at least get the fuse and tail outta that. Kinda fun to be able to build it from raw wood, although I didn't cut the tree down! :o) I think if I were you guys, I'd be the one answering the question like Ryan , but I might not have been as nice.... "Geez dude? Why re-invent the wheel? The plans call out 1", make them 1"!" I will be close, but thought if 7/8" would be what Ol' Bernie made later fuses out of, I'd still be pure enough. I will be using the Corvair, and I plan to make the whole plane out of the sitka I can grab locally. Posts of little wood chips later! :o) Thanks guys! Very excited to finally start. (Job? What job.... I'm livin' in the shop now!) I wish I'd used a pencil. They just knew it was me. do not archive -------- Kevin "Axel" Purtee NX899KP Austin/Georgetown, TX Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=340686#340686 " target=_blank>http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?Pietenpol-List p://forums.matronics.com blank>http://www.matronics.com/contribution

Well, I know my personality type, as tested in multiple tests, shows that I am the entertainer type, and my wife is the detailed book keeper type. So after 2 years of marriage, I relinquished the control of finances to her, and accepted the meek allowance and a lifetime of hiding what I spend, only to be discovered later and have to spend many weekends in repentance mode. However, after a night in the barn tonight shaving down a plank of wood to the right thickness to saw into little sticks, I think I am wanting to detail this build to look back on when it's done as I am not likely to do this again. My last name is not Pietenpol, and I probably won't build 20 or so of these. So, I am gonna get a copy of the kitLog Pro and use it. Many thanks to Jack for the suggestion to back it up, as I am loathe to do that, and if I do this electronically as planned, I will be vested in the program. Back ups mandatory. Now I gotta go shower off little slivers of Sitka spruce. 15/16ths is close enough for this plane. That'll be the width of the sides before ply wood.
