et so I'm tied down here until the gale abates. Last I looked it was 270@12

Good luck Larry, I am a little concerned about tommorow, its forcast 17 gus
t to 31mph for poplar grove and brodhead, and staying windy all through wed
night.- Storms rolled through Ohio at about 6am today, so hopefully Jack

Larry,
I'm going to ask a dumb question: have you sealed your aileron and
elevator gaps?
Maybe I'm just an unwittingly bold pilot (not my intention, let me
assure you), but winds 12 gusting to 18 isn't *too* bad for me to fly
in. Let me also say that before I sealed my aileron gaps, 12mph was at
the hairy edge of my comfort zone. Lots of pucker factor with
unresponsive ailerons.
If you haven't sealed the gaps and can get to a home improvement store,
pick up some 1.5" wide blue painters tape and apply it to the aileron
gaps. It makes all the difference in the world.

Just got back in from a run to ohio.now I have to take a load to savannah
ga that I had not planned on ,so looks like it may be friday morning before
I get out of here unless I can get home early enough thursday to make any

I just talked to Kevin and he is at the Sand Burr enjoying lunch. No
issues at all on the trip up.
Jack Phillips and Matt Paxton were delayed out. Matt had a bungee give
out on the gear that cost them a few hours. It happened during a tight
turn. No damage other than the prop tips. It looks as the bungees may
have been loose and went a bit over center, then were unable to come
back. They are replacing the prop with the St Croix that Jack has at his
hangar and tightening the bungees. With any luck may get across the
mountains of WV today.

works.- I can pull the power back even further to maintain 78mph, and 29
00rpm (indicated).- It is about 100 150 rpm faster on climbout.- Woth t
he effort I guess, just not sure how long it will stick to the prop before
it starts coming loose.
Weather permiting I'm headed out at 7am tommorow.

It's dimple tape. Think golf ball dimples.
The original dimple tape web site is gone, but you can buy the stuff at
any vinyl sign shop. Cut it into 1" wide strips and apply it to the
thickest part of the airfoil (prop, wing, aerodynamic strut, etc.).
Works like vortex generators. Bill Rewey put it on his prop and gets
10% increase in performance and quieter operations, too. Glad to hear
that Shad is getting similar improvement.

Anyone passing through on the way to mecca if you need assistance etc. call me
on my cell. Morris, IL is basically I80 and St Rt 47. We are just west of Joliet

That is supposed to prevent the prop damage.

NX899KP had both safety cables and zip ties backing up the bungies. So when the
bungie failed after the landing gear was repaired, there was no additional damage.
Lesson learned.... FBG got a nice new set of springs this year!

We didn't make it out today. Weather was IFR until about 2:30 or 3:00, and
we had to drive an hour and a half each way back to my hangar at Smith
Mountin Lake to get my spare prop for Matt's plane. By the time we got the
new prop installed and the bungees fixed, it was 6:00 PM and we were too
tired to think about flying. We'll launch as early as we can in the morning
and see how far we can get. Forecast looks pretty good. With luck, we
might make it all the way, landing Brodhead by about 7:00 PM

at all on the trip up.
Jack Phillips and Matt Paxton were delayed out. Matt had a bungee give out

loose and went a bit over center, then were unable to come back. They are
replacing the prop with the St Croix that Jack has at his hangar and
tightening the bungees. With any luck may get across the mountains of WV
today.

No I just used the self adheasive backing, Wasn't sure if I would get any v
ibration or not, and I wouldn't have time to refinish the prop if I had to
sand off super glue.- Ours is not the dimple tape, it looks like a pinked
tape about 1/4 in wide or so.- I had dad order it and he got the stuff f
rom aircraft spruce, probably not quite as good as dimple tape, but I will
try-dimpletape on the spare prop when I get time.

Wish I could be delayed.on a trip to Brodhead...... I guess I actually am as I
have to finish my pane before I can fly it there................ thanks for all
the posts so I can enjoy Brodhead from my phone on Seattle... I did get to fly
backseat in a t-6 doing formation flying on Saturday so don't feel too sorry
