Well Scott (and anyone else that couldn't make it, but wanted to), I'd say that Brodhead 2011 was a success. I didn't get an accurate count (I'm sure someone else probably did) of the Piets there, but I would estimate that including the several Piets based at C37, there must have been close to 25 in attendance. Only two Ford-powered Air Campers flew in (Larry Williams and "Pieti" Lowell Frank), and three Corvair-powered Piets (I know that these three were there - Kevin Purtee, Gary and Shad Bell, and Tom Brown). Dick Navratil had his Rotec-powered Piet, as well as his Continental-powered one. And I think almost everything else was Continental-powered (except the Last Original or the Ford powered Piets that are based at the field). The weather was... interesting. Thunderstorms each night, and blistering heat in the daytime, once the rain moved out. As a bonus, there was some humidity to go with the heat. But there was lots of flying each day. The food was ... well, you know they boil fish there, don't you. So, if you like that, I guess it was "as usual" (good or bad). I didn't try the mosquitoes, so I'm not sure how they were. Just kidding - they weren't too thick, but they were present. Jack and Susan Textor made the generous offer to host a Friday Bratwurst lunch, and followed through in colors, feeding something like 80 people. I bet they won't make THAT mistake again! I don't care what anyone says, I think Jack's not such a bad guy :). Seriously though, that was extremely generous, Jack and Susan. Thank you. You are truly nice people. There were a few long distance Piets - Kevin Purtee all the way from Texas (with a crank-snapper, no less), Jack Grenier from Colorado (Jack is only 90 years old), Larry Williams from Arkansas (Model A), Jack Phillips and Matt Paxton from Virginia. Matt managed to overcome some difficulties with his prototype retractable landing gear, and arrived on Friday afternoon. There may have been others that also traveled long distances - sorry if I omitted you. As usual, many acquaintances were rekindled, and many new faces were put to names, and a good time was had by all. And, even though it's a day longer than it used to be, the whole event seemed to go even faster than usual. They say time flies when you're having fun, so I must have really been having fun. Actually, I said aileron pulleys... To be more specific, I did follow the plans on this part of the build. (Cra zy huh?) But I noticed once installed, with the ailerons in the neutral pos ition/ just off neutral, both pulleys were at an angle to which they would rub the cable quite a bit. (enough to make some chatter.) I would prefer th e pulleys to be in alignment with the cables while in the neutral/just off neutral position as this is where the ailerons will spend most of there tim e. If there is some rub at the extreme travel positions, I am OK with that. So, the pulley brackets are being re-fabricated. Ryan: Thank you for the information. Yes I weigh 290, I say I am going to lose weight, but I don't. I got out of the military 34 years ago and weighed about 240. So enough said, I am not going to change. I used to fly a single seat quicksilver with a 503, about 10 years ago switched to a 2 seat powered parachute, it has been so windy this year and so humid, I am not getting much flying time, so I am determined to go fixed wing. With all that background I have always loved the Pietenpol and I like Model A motors, I had thought I would just build the fuselage (width wide to fit me) I still kind of want to, however I am wondering about building a 1 seat oversize (width) sky scout and using my A motor. I really do not care about carrying a passenger. Thanks for your thoughts, I appreciate any ideas you or anyone else has. I REALLY do need to update my website! I have material for my Landing Gear Hint video ready to go, but just have not taken the time to do so. I have a ton more photos as well, but the software I use to update the site makes p rocessing pictures into it quite the chore. The pulley brackets, for me, were originally not angled enough. Once the la rger bracket is bent at both ends and the two smaller legs are welded to it , it is pretty much set. Once this was mounted to the wing and I installed the ailerons, the pulleys were not "flat" enough...they needed to be brough t in towards each other to better line up with the pulleys. A large C clamp did this for me, but it distorted the bracket enough that I figure best to start again. Oh, keep in mind that I am using the 613 airfoil. Not sure if this is relevant, but perhaps this airfoil is different enough that it requires a tweak to the pulley brackets. (Doubt it.) Michael Perez Karetaker Aero www.karetakeraero.com

As mentioned in another post, I am re-making my pulley mounts. I was asked about some pictures, so here goes. I have not re-made them as of yet, but here are the originals. What I need to do with the new brackets is to bring the pulley angles closer towards each other, or flatten them out as from the mounted point of view. I am using the 612 airfoil...not sure if that requires the change in angle or not. The shown pulleys fit nicely within the wing, they would not have interfered with fabric installation, but just did not fit the cable angle off of the ailerons. I didn't take nearly as many photos but I did spend a lot more time meeting and getting to know the good people on the list who make an event like this more of a reunion rather than just a bunch of nice airplanes showing up for a long weekend. Billy, I'm hoping that you will have another "new" Piet to look at next year -- mine. I have just about finished the right wing, have all the tail surfaces finished, and the fuselage is about 1/2 finished. Think I'll make it? I certainly hope, if the plane is finished and the test hours flown off, that I can arrange to be there next year. Mike, The pusher stopped at Porter County airport on it's way to Oshkosh Monday the 25th. It's been on a tour. Cruise speed 55. They have 2 pilots. After about an hour and a half or s-- they spell each other. Plane can take it--pilots can't. Notice the front wheel on Shad's picture. It's solid. The pilot had to stop, get out of the plane and turn the fuse to the direction he wanted to go then get back in to move it there. Doesn't sound like 'good old days'. It's running a 6 cly. Continental. More power than it needs to fly. Yes. The Curtis is hanging in the terminal as you take the escalator down t o the luggage claim area. -It has been their as long as I can remember. Our local chapter is very a ctive in restoring all type of aircraft to include the Curtis. I will try a nd dig up some information on it. - KMHeide Hawley, MN - --- On Tue, 7/26/11, GliderMike <glidermikeg@yahoo.com> wrote: From: GliderMike <glidermikeg@yahoo.com> Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: 1911 pusher, and piet KM, is the pusher in the commercial terminal in Fargo?- How long has it b een there? Jack P., I don't think they had 164 C.I.
