AC 4313 calls out specifically Western Hemlock. I called the lumber mill and they said all they had was Eastern Hemlcok, which makes sense because I live on the east coast. Since you have worked with this in the past, is there any real difference between the two? Kyle Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=355730#355730

Sorry, Kyle. I live on the west coast! I can't advise you to ignore AC43.13, but...there was a time when airplanes got built without that... From here I am going to try and decide between Spruce, Western Hemlock, or Douglas Fir for the spars and longerons (all in accordance with AC43.13). I would be using spruce without question if only it was locally available. Upstate NY has a lot of quality lumber available locally, just not a lot of spruce. Kyle, I don't live too far from you. Remsen NY just north of Utica. Building a GN-1. Look up Condon Lumber http://www.condonlumber.net/lumber.htm. They are located in White Plains NY and carry Sitka Spruce. I have a friend that bought rough boards there and milled his own. He was quite happy. I have not bought from them as the wood work on my plane was done when I bought it. I do get their email promotions, however. -------- Jon Coxwell GN-1 Builder Recycle and preserve the planet Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=355781#355781

You might have to pay for gas to get the tech councilor and of course the DAR charges for his trip but it is well worth it. The tech councilor works with our EAA chapter in Utica and the one in Oswego. I am using him on my GN-1. The DAR lives in Eaton, just NW if Hamilton NY. He has won some trophies at Oshkosh for his work. Cubs and short wing Pipers are his specialty. He is a great guy as well. -------- Jon Coxwell GN-1 Builder Recycle and preserve the planet Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=355782#355782

Prop is a 72 X 40" McCauly prop that is stamped experimental. The prop was cut down from a 74 X 40 probably to improve engine RPMs. Prop working well on an A-65 and would probably work on an C-85. The prop was inspected by an A&P IA and a few small nicks filed out. The prop was painted and balanced. The prop is in very good condition. The prop is being sold for Experimental only. $795 or a reasonable offer.
