You can see information on the chapter's website... http://www.eaa431.org/ In all the years I've been to Brodhead (19, I think), one thing I could always count on was heading over to hang out for a while in Mehlin's hangar. He was a big part of making the gathering a great experience. He will be missed by many. I have flown it in 29 degrees on Thanksgiving morning a couple years ago, it was spitting snow as I taxied back to the hangar. All I needed was insulated coveralls, long johns, ski mask and goggles, warm gloves, and a belly full of hot coffee to get me out there. You guys sure have flown that thing a lot. I got a little time in last night just before sunset. Was really beautiful in Ohio. You need to get skis! Heck with the cold air. It's really not that bad. Kind of a state of mind. Ha! Maybe a stupid state of mind! I've had mine on skis each winter for the past 5 years. I can't wait! There's nothing like it. Those of us who were privileged to call him "Friend" will always recall his wry sense of humor, unrelenting pursuit of excellence and totally awesome airplanes. He was a craftsman that should be emulated by anyone making an airplane (but, sadly isn't). It won't be the same going to Brodhead without a trip to his hangar to view what he had been working on the previous year. Go to the EAA 341 website for a link to his obituary. Incredible man. He'll be missed. Larry ________________________________ Message 6 _____________________________________ Time: 02:44:22 PM PST US Subject: Pietenpol-List: Center Section progress From: "Bill Church" Got a message from fellow builder Scott Knowlton, saying he had tried to post some progress pics, but the message and pics weren't going through, so I'm giving it a try, on behalf of Scott. Here's Scott's message (very nice work, by the way): Bill C. Subject: Centre Section I thought I would share a couple of pictures with the group of the progress I've been making on my centre section. The cut out was made from three pieces of 1/4 inch spruce which were steamed, formed and laminated in a simple jig. Steel brackets and hardware have been fabricated, welded and dry fit. At Bill Church's suggestion I took them to a local powder coating company who made them look like parts from a big factory rather than from my vice and ballpeen hammer and torches! I will do the same with the rest of my metal work. Such a great way of protecting all that time spent on the fussy metal pieces. Great fun.
