I knew there was a 2cyl somwhere. The only experience I have personally is with the 6A-350:) Doug Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Franklin 65hp From: bradandlinda@tds.net The 65hp Franklin was a 4 cyl engine made in the 1940s. It was a very smoo th runing and quiet=2C but less powerful than the Cont 65. Later in the 1 960 s Franklin made a 2 cyl 60 hp eng that was used in a Champion aircraft . However the 65hp is only 2cyl if my memorey serves me correctly and unlike theier kin does not have very much torque and thrust for 65hp. And parts? dunno where you'd get em. I'd say boat anchor :-o Doug Dever in beautiful Stow Ohio. I flew the Piet for about an hour late yesterday afternoon. Temps on the ground were low 60s but it did cool off at altitude -I took it up to 4000' to clear some mountains. The tall windshields and a good windproof fleece-lined jacket, along with leather gloves and a ski cap kept me pretty warm. I'm hoping it'll be comfortable enough to fly through the winter on warmer days without snow on the runway. Sure was pretty with the setting sun and the last of the fall colors on the leaves! For this reason it is probably best to avoid powdercoating critical structural components (like the motor mount), and just use a good enamel paint instead. Should a crack develop in the one of these parts, the enamel paint will also crack, making it easier to detect. Bill C.
