Finally made it over to see Tim and his Piet!
Great guy and it sure was nice of him to let me sit in his aircraft and ask a bunch
of questions.
I'm glad I got to sit in one finally. At first i didn't realize that his wing is
2" taller than the plans. I guess I'm going to have to do the same for ours.
I also liked his raised turtle deck.
Next time I'm bringing my dad... I'm not so sure he'll be able to get in and out
very easily.
Anyway i sure am glad i now know someone locally who has a piet whom we can go
to for help.
Thanks guys!

John,
Just finished my r wing., all my ribs are done.
I made matching 2 x 4 blocks with the curve ,soaked the ACS cap strips in w
ater- over night and then clamped them in the "molds" -for 24 hrs worke
d fine.
Also took out the under camber (a pain to cover.)
I made an outline of the rib on a flat table and used small blocks on both
sides of the cap strip here and there.
Put the outside blocks on the line , butspace the inside block about 1/8 ic
h off the inside line. Take apart these spring loaded clothespins and you h
ave nice little wedges this will accomadate small variations in cap strip t
hickness.

Now you have a different aerofoil with different stall, centre of lift, etc.

Hi John,
The ribs on NX18235 were built using spruce. I didn't pre-bend either
the upper or lower capstrips. They went directly from the boiling water
into the rib jig.
I allowed the capstrips to dry and cool before installing the gussets
using Aerolite.
This worked very well for me.

Subject: | Wing rib profile questions |
I'm ready to make my wing rib jig and would like to use the 1:1 print that we ordered
with the plans. I would like to take a razor, cut it out, and then trace
around it for the jig. However I got to looking at the plans and then I started
taking measurements on the 1:1 drawing, and it does not seem to match.
Should i not worry about it?
Should i draw the rib on my jig, as per the plans?
Thanks

Hi John,
Good to hear from you - I hope you're doing well.
I'm building a Piet with a GA30-612 airfoil to go along with N8031 and I
found that I have to pre-bend the bottom capstrip to make it fit in the
jig. Many have said this is not the case with the FC-10 airfoil.
Depending on how many blocks you have (the more, the better), you may be
able to stick it right into the jig like Greg did.
Cheers!
Dan
