Thanks, Jack. If he flew the Corsair he's got to be OK. I flew the
Corsair 1 (one) hour. My room-mate, a Corsair pilot, and I were
constantly arguing over which of the Corsair and Hellcat was the better.
We went to the Air Group Commander to see if we could swap airplanes
for one hop. He agrfeed so I flew the Corsair and Sam flew the Hellcat.
We later agreed that there was not that much difference. The Corsair
was maybe 10-15 knots faster, but all in all they performed very nearly
the same. The Hellcat was maybe a little tougher. I've seen them come
back and land aboard the carrier when you would think they should not
even be able to fly. Them were the days! C

I can't remember off hand how much we added to the cabanes length, but I am
fairly certin it was 3-4 inches.- It still flys good.- I was fortunate
to fly Kurt Shipman's piet at Brodhead this year, which I believe had shor
ter cabanes than ours, and they flew very similar.- The only thing I noti
ced with his, was the heaviness in the ailerons, as his gaps were not seale
d.- One more note on the strucure of the cabanes, the taller you make the
m the easier the front diagonal tube will fail (bending, compression)-in
event of sudden stopage (crash).- It really lessens the angle from the wi
ng to firewall, puting a large bending load on the brace tube.

As I understand it, "Pietenpolish" is equivalent to "kosher",
while "Unpietenpolish" is the same as "not kosher".
When you already have trouble talking right sometimes (like me),
it can be a real boon having shorter words or phrases to say
the same thing. For example, if someone says they decided to
use a VW engine for power on their Piet, I could make the
statement that "I question the kosherity of that" or I could
say "I question the Pietenpolishness of that" and get my
tongue tied. It seems to happen a lot more over a beer, for
some reason.
do not archive , because that would be unpietenpolish.
