If he flew the Corsair he's got to be OK. I flew the Corsair 1 (one) hour. My room-mate, a Corsair pilot, and I were constantly arguing over which of the Corsair and Hellcat was the better. We went to the Air Group Commander to see if we could swap airplanes for one hop. He agrfeed so I flew the Corsair and Sam flew the Hellcat. We later agreed that there was not that much difference. The Corsair was maybe 10-15 knots faster, but all in all they performed very nearly the same. The Hellcat was maybe a little tougher. I've seen them come back and land aboard the carrier when you would think they should not even be able to fly. Them were the days!
