Here=92s an idea, With so many of us sharing, I realized that I=92m unfamiliar with what most people are building (IF they=92re building=85) so=85 How =91bout we all send in what we=92re building (Pietenpol, I know) like what engine, gear, wood or steel fuse, long or short fuse, how long into it and maybe how long to go? and additions/changes of note that we might find interesting and colors would be fun if you=92re not too secretive about such vital information. I=92ll start. Short fuselage Continental C-90 with starter Two piece wing Wood struts Bumped up =93tiger moth=94 type center section tank =93Jenny=94 gear =93faux=94 doped/aged translucent linen finish with a beautiful =93baby poop=94 green trim and =93Re-PIET=94 huge across the wing and down each fuse side. Aiming to be done in two or three months. Marvel Mystery Oil in fuel, pre-mixed-sloshed, pre-warmed and perfumed! From: "Billy McCaskill" I bought my plans (Orrin Hoopman 1933) in 1995, didn't start building until 2009. So far, I have only got my fin and rudder, and elevators done. Need to order wood for horizontal stab and capstrip amterial to build ribs. Will be building short fuselage, 3-piece wing, Jenny style gear, powering it with a Corvair, and most likely painting with latex. No color scheme chosen yet. Progress (or lack thereof) halted at the moment due to moving/real estate issues. do not archive -------- Billy McCaskill Urbana, IL tail section almost done, starting on ribs soon Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=371425#371425 ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 07:09:39 PM PST US Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: put your cards on the table Gents and Ladies! From: "aussiegeorge" Down in australia, Working on the metal bits. She who must be obeyed cannot see them as they are small and easily hidden. The drought has broken and as usual for a drought it ended in floods and tears. In my case it rained for four solid days and the 1 km long driveway swallowed up everything with wheels. Soooo me and the ancient tractor have been moving gravel and scraping for the last month. I finished the thirty two thousandths parts and laser cut extra. I am allmost done with the 63 thousandths parts. I will have them laser cut soon. This part is off topic way off. A friend from crowd killer land is looking for this part or something similar. I don't have my antique catalogues anymore so I am hoping someone will recognize this switch and maybe have have one or a part number for a similar item. It is a Mason 305-4387. see photos. It is evidently some sort of center off spring loaded trim switch. Looking for this has kept me from working on the piet parts! mutter moan By the way I enjoyed the 787 difference training post. I can't wait to hear what happens when the nannites invade. do not archive Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=371453#371453 Attachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/305_4387_switch_128.jpg ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 07:59:51 PM PST US Subject: Pietenpol-List: Fuse question From: "Kyle85" I THOUGHT I had my mind made up on this but I have started having doubts on fuse length. My emp is days from completion and I was planning on starting the fuse shortly after. I have plans for both the long and the short fuse along with the materials to build either, so that is not a factor. Here is my scenario; It is important to me that my dad be able to fly with me. He is about 6'2 and 230 lbs. I am 5'10 180 lbs. My initial thought was long fuse because I was planning on running a cont. A-65. But then i realized my fuel tank is set up to be placed in the nose. So, I would think I could go with the short and be fine with the added fuel weight that far forward. But the problem with that logic is I will develop an aft CG as my fuel burns. If I do decide to go with the short will my dad fit with that fuel tank up there? I need some real world guidance here I know a few of you have built and flown planes close to this configuration. Any regrets or thoughts you would like to pass along would be appreciated. Thanks, Kyle -------- Airspeed, altitude or brains: Two are always needed to successfully complete the flight. I am 5' 11" and had a ride in the short fuselage version. It was a tight fit.
