I don't know if I can take the time off (unless Gene Rambo
inished his black and yellow Pietenpol in time for Brodhead. If that
appens, I have sworn to fly my Pietenpol alongside his and I will honor
      hat pledge).

A hah! Some secret information inadvertently released from an informed thir

I' m leaving Wed. and plan on getting to Brodhead by Thurs. Will fly with
Rambo if he's ready, and Jack Phillips if he flies his Piet. Probably can' t
convince him to fly the RV at 72 mph.

I will be there Thursday and Friday. I have to help marshall the Cubs 2
      Osh group over the weekend.

Dan Yocum and I spent a nice mini-barnstorming day over Southern
Wisconsin and Northern Illinois today. It was a blast.

I even caught a great thermal on the way home. I ended up closing the
throttle and pointing the nose down (indicating almost 90) before I
started to lose altitude. Ended up gaining 600 ft in my Pietenglider.

I agree John. He was good for aviation and will be missed. The airplane in my avatar

Models. I had phone conversations with him over the years. Very nice person. Hate

My condolences to his friends and family. Roman was a nice guy, in met him

Good to hear Kevin.- I conned my way into flying the piet up to Lima Ohio
for my frieds wedding last night.- My wife was in the wedding, so she wa
s already up there.- I flew out about 3pm and felt like a martini by the
time I got there (80 miles).- Thermal city out here, had to ride them up
1000ft+-to keep the airspeed down in the green.- It was a little better
coming home this morning, I am only about 10 hrs ahead of FBG, 309 or so o
n the tach.- I might make Brodhead, but probably not untill friday evenin
      g if I go.

      I live for this stuff.

The Jacksonville pilots club puts on a tomato bombing competition at their
little airport in conjunction with the town's annual weekend tomato fest.
      - We had 18 airplanes compete.- Matt Wash was my "tomatodier" (bombardi
er).- We didn't do very well but it sure was fun.-

The best part was the trip.- I had to travel yesterday to be there in tim
e for the pilot's brief this morning.- Barely made it out of Austin due t
o concern for rain, but took off at 1600 and made it to Jacksonville as the
sun was hitting the horizon.- Bumpy and crappy at first, and then beauti
ful for the last hour.- It's a ~220 mile trip one way.- There was a 172
doing touch and goes as I landed.- I tied down FBG, was getting ready to
find a taxi or call the FBO guy for a car, and the 172 pulls up and calls
me over.- He's the organizer of the tomato drop.- He drives me to my ho
tel and picks me up in the morning.- Within an hour of landing at an almo
st deserted airport I was eating dinner after checking into my hotel.- Ge
      ts no better.

Lots of fun at the fly-in.- Food and companionship and so forth.

The trip back was bumpy but good.- Landed at home base and went and chatt
ed with my ATC buddy who was working the tower.

Went over 300 hours on this trip.- I'm certainly not competing with anyon
e, but.....Shad, I'm comin', and Matt Paxton, I'm increasing my lead:).

but will definitely be there for Friday morning's Bratfest II. Jack T,
is there anything that any one of us can bring to help out?

Can anyone please share with me what size hardware they used on the forward rudder
pedal brackets and control stick bearing mounts? I've searched the archives
and looked over the drawings with no luck. AN3s seem way too thick for the copilots
rudder pedals considering they are only going thru plywood.

Roman was a character. I found out his wife passed away just a month

      the end.

I don't know if many remember Ryder Olson but he used to hang out on
this list and Brodhead for a few years. I received word from his family
via a MAAC mailing that he passed a few months ago as well. Not a good
