    From: Mark Roberts <mark.rbrts1@gmail.com>
Since I can't sleep tonight thinking about my build, I want to ask a question regarding trim on the elevator controls. I have seen Mike Cuy's treatment on the elevator trim, and have planned to imitate it (best form of flattery Mike!). I thought I'd ask if there were other forms of trim being used by you pieters, and if there are pics anywhere. I am at the point of building my seat and pilot's 'perch' so I want to plan out the trim arrangement. I am going to buy the rest of the Bingalis books soon, so if there is a good reference on this in one of them, point me in the right direction coach! Thanks! Mark

Mark My Piet originally had a push/pull cable operating a trim tab on the elevator. The problem was constantly having to adjust the trim in flight due to drift in the cable. The solution was to bust off the plastic knob and add threads to attach a turnbuckle which works absolutely flawless and allows for very small adjustments which comes in handy if you have a header fuel tank. -------- Adrian M Winnipeg, MB Canada Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=375504#375504 Attachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/dsc00556_154.jpg http://forums.matronics.com//files/dsc00216_208.jpg

Hopefully the link posted allowed people to see the sculptures I'm donating. I think you can also see them on my website under limited editions. www.douwestudios.com <http://www.douwestudios.com/> They are for sale privately, and I'll still make a BPA donation from those sales if anyone is interested, but can't make Brodhead. I kind of did them for fun and have only displayed them once, so only one has sold of each. I'll have to go back and find the pricing, but anyone interested can contact me offline. Douwe Progress report. Got Marci to help last night and got all the stitching done on the tail surfaces. Taping for the next few days, then start on the fuse! Called my hangar owner and told him to make plans to move his big ugly Waco over and make room for a real airplane!!

That's a neat chart for the old timey turnbuckles. For the modern ones the dash number designates the pull strength, -16 is 1600 lbs., -22 is 2200 lbs. etc. This doens't seem to match exactly on the Aircraft Spruce chart, http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/turnbuckles.php , but it's the basic premise. So -16 is for 3/32" cable, -22 is for 1/8" cable, -32 is for 5/32" cable, and so on, to match the strength of the cable. - -------- do not archive Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=375531#375531

Hey guys.. I weighed the piet today... all together but with fabric only on the control surfaces.. I'm wishing it was lighter but i'm at 649 lb's .. empty with oil and water.. cg is 10.65 with me in the back and no fuel cg is at 19.92 with fuel it moves forward less than a half inch. I'm thinking with the rest of the fabric and paint i'm looking at an another 35-40 lbs.. based on the polyfober manual number of 43 lbs to cover a cub. i'm thinking most of that fabric and paint are behind the CG so its gonna move back a bit more.. a bit of wing moving may be in order jeff Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=375588#375588

Our instructor flew again wednesday eve for over an hour and all went good. Low speed pass at 30 mph - high speed at 103 mph and stalls at 27. It weighs in at 805 empty with an 0-200 and a 72-44 wood prop. He made several landings and said he likes wheel landings with a little power. What a thrill to see it fly. Bob

Thanks Guys! Believe it or not, the hardest part isn't the building, it is the compilation of the steel parts needed to order from ACS! I have spent the last few hours looking at all I need to order to build the fuse control stuff. Part of the fun! Vic, I will call you tonight as I see you called when I was away. Subject: Hey! Pulley my finger! A pulley question...
    From: "Mark Roberts" <mark.rbrts1@gmail.com>
OK, I know the plans were drawn in the 30's and things change. But since we are still building these things into this century, what are you all using for a 2" pulley on the control stick assembly? I have put an order list together from ACS and have almost everything 'cept the pulleys and the nuts and bolts identified for the order, and I can't find the phenolic pulleys that are 2" diameter for a 1/8" cable. the closest I found was A-123, a 2" OD with a 1.5" ID, but only accepts up to a 3/32" cable, not 1/8". Suggestions? I might be too picky here, but some stuff I am just plain ignorant about and this is one of them. (And I am not taking suggestions regarding the other things I might be ignorant about from any other west coast pieters...) Thanks guys! Hope to be ordering very soon. I am ready for some steel! Subject: AN Bolt deciphering - Resource
    From: Mark Roberts <mark.rbrts1@gmail.com>
The hardest part of this build (OK, for me perhaps who is so ADD that I am still trying to remember where my meds are located...) is the stinkin' hardware. I have compiled a list of metal, and am now "bolting"... I am assuming that most of the bolts I get could have a hole in the shaft to use if necessary. Is there any potential down side to this idea of ordering all the bolts with holes in the threaded end. I can bet there would be a problem if I needed the hole and didn't have it... Thoughts? Here's a link to what I thought was a helpful chart. I hope it might help others with my same affliction (Harumph!) http://www.gen-aircraft-hardware.com/images/pdf/an3_thru_an20.pdf Mark

Sorry guys... Just found the bolt selector tool on ACS. Geez... that helps a lot.
