Seriously, I get about 3 - 4 years from a set of bungees, but they tend to
wear out by chafing rather than age. Mine is the straight axle gear and the
bungees chafe against the V-block. If you have the split axle gear, there's
no reason to cahnge them until you start seeing sagging indicating a
reduction in elasticity. Still, I'd think 10 years would be approaching the
limit. They are made of natural rubber and they do age.

Speaking of bungees, what is the normal lifespan for bungees? Mine are 13
years old, when should I replace them?

Talk to Mike. I helped him with ours and they seem ok. I would take

second safety clamp to secure the ends. We put all we had into it. Yes
it takes two to do it right. Vic

After removing the wings from yesterday's W&B, my son is going to help with
the ever-loving bungees. Advice is encouraged.

longer than mine. There are 2 videos on Facebook if you want a look see.

Checked out the videos on Facebook! You have built a fine looking airplane. Your
aviator skills appear to match your craftsmanship. Just got in from gluing up
a few parts. Figure I will be where you are in 5 years or so, thanks for helping
us aspiring Piet pilots keep our eye on the prize!

Thanks good Pietenpol people. I might get to fly again this afternoon. I had an
issue with a sparkplug this morning. Mag check and the right mag had a dead plug......well
I didn't have a spare so after digging through several piles of
sparkplugs at 18FD I finally got a used one. That in no way has dampened my spirits.
Still have this silly grin on my face(see pic).

Jake, I'm sure Jerry's grin will last a long time- that's why they call it permagrin.
I don't think 36 grit could remove that!
Great job Jerry, congrats on a beautiful Piet!
