I went ahead and snatched it up, figuring that some Corvaircrafter (or small Continental user) out there might need one. I popped the top, it is intact, with no visible bowl corrosion from ethanol use. I paid $250 for it, I am asking $250 for it, and you pay for shipping. And, what did you figure for safe thread depth of the J3 forks? I couldn't find a minimum thread depth chart for steel bolts into aluminum. A typical rule of thumb for steel-in-steel is one thread diameter minimum to match the full strength of the bolt. I would assume steel-in-aluminum to be more than that since aluminum isn't quite as strong as steel. Aluminum is also subject to fatigue over the long haul, so overkill would be good here. From: "Mark Roberts" Do Not Archive This is purely fluff. My first steel order came today, and it's kinda funny: I now believe I will finish and fly my Piet. I can actually buy aircraft grade spruce locally. So ordering that was a no brainer. But steel... that is a foreign language. I have never worked with steel, so it is a new and foreign substance, and while I have built complex things like 3 axis mills and such from scratch, from my own design, it was out of aluminum 80/20 struts that bolted together. This stuff here requires welding... a new skill. I am completely comfortable cutting, gluing, and working with wood in every way. Steel.... well, epoxy doesn't hold as well on steel. so, I gotta learn to weld. No biggie: I got the Tin man 4130 2 tape set to watch (years ago) and some practice pieces from ACS, so I'm good to go there.
