I got an invite to Emeraldcoast Aviation's open house/fly-in at KCEW so I flew
over yesterday. I was not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. Near 50
airplanes flew in. I forgot my camera so no pictures :( There were only 3 experimentals
there, the rest being mostly Piper and Cessna. An immaculate J-3,
a very nice Tri-pacer and a couple of Aeronca Champs. For the ones that remember
the TV series "SKY KING" and his Songbird there was a 1956 Cessna 310 there
that is beyond my description. It was painted black, fully restored from nose
to tail. It had all steam gauges recently rebuilt. Guess what. My Piet was parked
close by and they all came over to see the Piet! A crew of onlookers around
it all afternoon.

What a small world!!
THANKS so much for the pics!!! IF you have anymore, I'd love to see them as

douweblumberg@earthlink.net
Let me know when you're at the airport and I'll try to fly over, or we can
meet up at Waynesville where she's stationed for the next two weeks.
Congrats Dan and Jeff on the sale and the purchase of a great plane!!
Douwe
Ps. Weather looks good for thurs or fri so I'm going to try to fly one or
both of those days. If anyone is around the Waynesville area let's meet up.

Piet'rs,
I had a look into this this morning. Seems that there was some formatting or encoding
in Gary's message that the Forum importer didn't like and bombed out on.
I took the original message and clean up some of the headers and then resubmitted
it to the Fourm importer and it worked as expected:
http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?t=93484
I'm not sure exactly what's causing the importer to crap out. But I'll keep looking.
Don't forget that you can always catch up on the threaded messages using the List

the airport at 11:00am, it was about 40 degrees.=C2- I was interested in
how cold it would feel, and excited because this would be my first chance

I flew right through them with smoke going NO, JUST KIDDING

Thanks Matt! I've noticed that this has occurred several times in the past weeks/months
where I see comments on a topic that are in response to a post that
isn't available on the web. Sometimes the original post is included in the reply
and I can catch up that way, but often it's not, which leads me to believe
that some of us are missing parts of conversations that we didn't even know occurred.
Are there any pointers you can give us on proper formatting that might help, or
is it just the way that certain some clients are handling outgoing messages,
and perhaps out of the users control?

Actually, yes, there is some configuration that users can do to grease the process.
Most email clients allow you to configure the type of encoding that is used
when sending the messages. Two of the most common are "Plain-Text" and "HTML".
These days, by default, most clients will send BOTH a Plain-Text and an
HTML version of the message within the body. MIME is used to wrap these two
versions up and the receiving client picks which version it wants to view.
When posting messages to the Lists and Forums, its always better, faster, and more
reliable to send JUST the Plain-Text version. Generally you can go into your
email client and select how Sent messages are encoded. Select just "Plain-Text".
This will make posts the Lists and Forums a LOT cleaner and work much
more smoothly.

Tried out my new powder coat oven, you have to watch the heat close. Works great
for the longer parts.

OK, got grief for not posting photos, so here is a video shot today of first
engine run. Brett Phillips came and helped out, and after chasing initial
water and fuel leaks, we got it running and put nearly an hour on it off and
on. Ran it to full power briefly a couple of times, can't wait to get the
fish scale, I think it'll break it! LOL
Finalize a few engine items, trim a few areas of the cowling, and all is
ready to paint and install. Wing is almost ready to shoot silver, then
color. Planning on first flight as soon as the weather warms up in the
spring. Brodhead FOR SURE this year, Jack and Matt, get ready . . . Douwe,
we'll meet you on the way. Now we need to get Brett to get to work on his
airpland and have a REAL squadron headed west!

When I remodeled our kitchen, the old oven went out to the garage and is now used
for powder coating small parts. Even did my Corvair block in it. Works just
dandy. Got the powder from Eastman as they have an excellent selection of colors.
Sears cheepie powder gun. Voila.
Now those long parts are a different story.... Will be interested in what Jack
did as well.

Good stuff Gene! All you guys finishing up are really keeping others motivated.
Not that the many already flying examples aren't inspirational, but to see
projects being finished up and making their first flights... wow!
Hats off to all of you who continue to demonstrate that perseverance pays!

Gary, yes the front cover makes a big difference and keeps my legs warmer on these
cool California evenings. I think it was only in the 70's today. I still
need to finish mine by stitching around the perimeter but the main part is
complete. I've started on one for the rear to keep the dust out.... and rain
too if I fly it out of California.
