Hi Mark,
I used .032 2024 over the front pit, and .025 2024 over the pilot pit. I fi
gured I needed the thick stuff in front to take the punishment of the passe
ngers. My DAR kept leaning on the combing (rear) while doing my aiwrorthine
ss inspection, even after I asked him not to (arrggg) and he bent it over s
lightly. I still need to get that bend out of there somehow, just havent ta
ken the time. FYI my engine cowl is .032 3003.

Hi guys:
What kind of metal, and what gauge do you use for the top of the fuselage a
round
the pilot seats and over the nose? Sorry if this has been posted, but I
struggled to think of a good search term...
I am assuming it is aluminum, but kind and thickness is not called out that
I
can see on the plans. I am about ready to cut the parts!
Many thanks guys!
Mark

Funny thing about the camera... I was asking about this kind of camera a month
or so ago on the list here. My wife had already bought it for me for Christmas
and I never said anything to her about wanting one! She just knows me a little
to well I guess! Now to get creative with some mounts on the wing, the tail,
a stick out in front of the wing.... :-)

Don,
I would think a mount under the fuselage where you could get an unrestricted view
of the ground would be useful as well. What type of mounts are you using for
the Go-Pro and would you incorporate them into the structure while you were
building if you would do it again?

Great video Don=2C how about the landing.what is it like taxing and turning
with the skis? i imagine the tail wheel would slow you down pretty quickly
when it comes down.

Is there any kind of servo-controlled mount that would work with this
setup? Then you could mount on a wing or strut and change the view/
perspective at will.

Thank you fellers!
I will be off to the local Kerney Aluminum store to see if I can locate some of
the 2024-T3 aluminum. I am assuming it is a common grade, and not an Aircraft
Spruce order. It would be nice to get something locally ... :-)

To help prevent the problem Dan had, I reinforced the edges of the cockpit
coaming by adding a piece of aluminum angle extrusion on top of the
longeron, fiting into a slit in a piece of polyethylene tubing that was then
covered with foam pipe insulation and covered with leather. See the sketch
and photo below:
By the way, I used 2024-T3 aluminum .025" thick for the engine cowling as
well as the cowlings over the cockpits.
Of course, some people just use the top of the longeron as the edge of the
cockpit, as Mike Cuy did. As with most things Pietenpol related, there are
many ways to solve each problem, and most of them are correct. That's one
of the things that makes Pietenpols so interesting.
Good Luck!

You're welcome. Fly safe!
Let's get back to the two black-white negatives of a Sky Scout I have here. I estimate
they are from 1932. One is an oblique view from the right rear showing
what appears to be a lady wearing a snug-fitting white hat sitting in the cockpit;
the other is a full left side view of the plane taken from a point in line
with the prop. Both show a logo on the side that reads "Pietenpol B-4-T Junior"
(?). The negatives have some minor damage to the glossy side, but appear
good enough to try taking a chance on getting them developed. However, I am in
Taiwan, and I may have trouble finding a suitable firm to handle the job without
accidentally damaging them.
Is anyone here familiar with these two old photographs? If they are already in
circulation, then there's no need to try having them printed here.
Someday, I'd like to lay my hands on a set of the original drawings. Can you believe
that I still don't have any? Ha!

Uh oh Jack! The drawing and picture didn't attach somehow, and I am trying to imagine
what the set up looks like based on your description. Is it just my iPad,
or did the photo and drawing not make it...?
Thanks for the help!

Orrin, after your grandfather passed your grandmother still had copies of the original
drawings. Some of the drawings I saw were not included in the plan sets.
Dick Gleason from Austin used to produce the copies for her whenever she
sold a set. Your Grandpa had autographed several of these copies. I think I
may have received the last autographed one she had. As far as original drawings,
I have ever only seen one set of these. The original drawings had white
lines on dark blue or black paper. I think that Vi Kapler has a set of the original
"blueprints". Goldie gave many of the drawings she had remaining to one
of the members of the Austin EAA chapter. Thank You for sharing the photograph
and the story of your father. You should have seen the crowd that gathered
around your grandfather during his last visit to Brodhead. Wow, I thought he
was a rock star. Your grandma did too!
