Another great stop is Grime s Field at Urbana, OH. Grass runway and a great restaurant on the field. Th e pies there are some of the best I've ever eaten. There's also a small air museum. Nice folks too. Van Wert, OH also has a grass runway and friendly folks. This one seems to be in the colors of Mississippi State University where it was probably part of their aeronautical engineering research program in the late 40's and early 50's under Dr. August Raspet. Where did this plane come from? Who owns it? It should be preserved as it is because its history is probably fairly interesting. So, there you have it. They are a wonderful organization and they take children from infants thru 17. Whe my dad diied a couple of years ago he left them a good chunk of money and my wife and I wend shopping for things they really needed, like underwear and socks. The older kids are the ones that are short of that sort of thing. If anyone here on this list wants to support this organization I would appreciate it greatly, you could send any deductable donation to; St. Josephs Home for Children Richard Navratil 1415 Skiles Ln. The fly-in starts in the afternoon so the the townspeople can come out and see the airplanes, and we usually have between 25 and 40 mostly vintage types attending. This started as a one shot deal for the centennial of the Model T, in 2008, when we had 600 Model Ts at the airport (and almost 1,000 from all over the world at the fairgrounds in Richmond, IN.) They liked it so much they asked us to come back on a yearly basis. We do some flour bombing and balloon busting around 4, and at sundown go into town for pizza and refreshments. Then camp with the airplanes overnight. There are no showers, but are porta-potties. It's a 4,000 foot by 200 foot grass runway, but no gas, although you can get it at Richmond, about 20 miles East. No grass runways at Richmond, but you can land alongside the paved runways. Even the curmudgeonly guy usually shows up, although one year he got a new nickname after he locked the keys in the van... Here's a photo from 2008, when we had green and cream airplanes in small, medium, large, and extra large. And the cover of the latest MTFCA magazine, looking south down the runway at Hagarstown, and featuring the prototype Sky Scout, now in the MTFCA Museum in Richmond, IN. - -------- do not archive Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=392098#392098 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other Matronics Email List Services ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post A New Message pietenpol-list@matronics.com UN/SUBSCRIBE http://www.matronics.com/subscription List FAQ http://www.matronics.com/FAQ/Pietenpol-List.htm Web Forum Interface To Lists http://forums.matronics.com Matronics List Wiki http://wiki.matronics.com Full Archive Search Engine http://www.matronics.com/search 7-Day List Browse http://www.matronics.com/browse/pietenpol-list Browse Digests http://www.matronics.com/digest/pietenpol-list Browse Other Lists http://www.matronics.com/browse Live Online Chat! http://www.matronics.com/chat Archive Downloading http://www.matronics.com/archives Photo Share http://www.matronics.com/photoshare Other Email Lists http://www.matronics.com/emaillists Contributions http://www.matronics.com/contribution ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These Email List Services are sponsored solely by Matronics and through the generous Contributions of its members.
