Here is a perfect exaple where NOT to locate the rear shoulder harness exit
points. Way too far apart. One of the first orders of business this spring
will be to re-rout thesesover the top of the glovebox.

Joseph,
Attached shows how I did my front and pilot pits. Keep in mind this Piet
has not been off the ground.
The 7/16 picture shows the 2nd or 3rd practice instrument board, I have
since moved the engine instruments to the right and the mag switch to the
left, because when starting my Grega I am always standing at the prop or on
the left side.

very nice design Skip. great idea for front cockpit. also acts a bit like a roll
bar. more weight, but safety first! I lost a former coworker in a beech -18
that would have probably been survivable if our employer had opted to install
shoulder harnesses.
Any other front cockpit shoulder harness designs out there?

Here is how I did my front seatbelts. I copied it from another Piet I had seen
at Brodhead. They work very well and can be removed easily. I would do it the
same way again.

I just finished making a set for a O-300. Wish I had had these dimensions
before I started because I was copying a poorly homemade set that was
already on this engine. They looked like they were hit by a truck, but at
least they are shiny now. LOL

I'd concur Dowe with Jack and Harry Fenton. I believe the Bingelis books
show diagrams or sketches of those baffles
and they aren't hard to make up of scrap aluminum, springs, and a piece of
welding rod or wire.
I have a set in my airport desk drawer that I have to reinstall this spring.
Thanks for the reminder. (had them out for maintenance)

Here's a good description with sketches on how to make these puppies.

Paul--yes, there are other ideas on shoulder harnesses and seat belts out there.
Tony Bingelis has advice on shoulder harnesses. Check out my Uncle Tony's
book series....if you have them. If you don't my Uncle Tony's boys will come
visit you.

Thanks Paul,
Sorry about your coworker.
I copied the British design except the aft legs on mine are not adjustable.
Anyone considering a similar design will need to spend extra time placing
instruments as the shoulder harness brace takes allot of space in the
instrument housing, where there is not much space to begin with.

Yes, Douwe- isn't Gardiner's wife just a peach? Very elegant lady, and so nice.
They were kind enough to care for a Ford Ranger pickup that I bought in Atlanta
for a couple of weeks until I could go retrieve it. Such nice folks.
When Scout had the A65 on it, there were no intercylinder baffles on it and I didn't
give it a second thought. However, I began to hear (and read) more about
them and their importance to cooling the full perimeter of the cylinders so
when I swapped from the 65 to the 75, I installed some. The ones on my engine
are right out of Wag-Aero (I believe), and come as a small kit with four aluminum
pieces, a couple of bent stiff wire pieces, and a couple of springs to hold
the baffles in place. Pretty simple stuff, and I can certainly see what they
do to route cooling air from the eyebrows on top, down between and under the
jugs. You can easily make the parts using the information that Mikee and others
have posted here, or you can make them from the patterns that Tony Bingelis
includes in his books. I'm sure a picture will be worth more than thousands
of keystrokes, so maybe someone will post pictures of how the baffles actually
appear when they are in place. I may be out at the hangar this weekend myself,
and the cowlings are off of my engine, so I'll try to get some pix when I'm
there if I remember.
